Blackpool manager Simon Grayson today made it clear that he is still pursuing a deal. Asked if his interest in Devaney was over, Grayson answered: "No. We are always looking to sign players.

"We're obviously looking to get players in who are going to make us better all over the football pitch and we've still got one or two options to develop on.

"Things will be governed by how much you are going to have to pay for certain players and we have to go down the line of making sure they are the right ones for us financially.

"As always we'll have to wait and see but the interest in him (Martin Devaney) hasn't died."

Barnsley chief Simon Davey commented: "At the end of the day we don't want to sell him. Blackpool put a bid on for £150,000 which we turned down. There's no more to say at the moment."

A significantly increased offer could change Davey's mind.

Meanwhile Port Vale look favourites to clinch a deal for midfielder Simon Heslop.

It is understood they have tabled a two year contract offer to the 21-year-old, who is also wanted on loan by Rochdale and Grimsby.

Barnsley have a friendly at York City tonight and Davey left team selection until this morning as Luke Steele, Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Hugo Colace, Devaney, Rob Kozluk, Istvan Ferenczi, Marciano van Homoet, Iain Hume and Brian Howard all reported minor injuries.

Denis Souza dropped out of the squad with an ankle problem suffered at Yeovil on Saturday.

    Seems to be pure speculation.

But if that bit about Heslop is true then sack Davey, the scouts at the Academy, the folk in charge of The Academy and shut the fcking academy down and lets get back to Barnsley Park Ave.

Mark Beevors gets his chance at Hillsborough and takes it with both hands. We keep our young'uns away from the first team for any meaningful length of time and hinder their developement.
