Do we know what constitutes a gesture to the referee, in my opinion it should include brandishing an invisible card at the ref.
Interesting. If this were to have been applied at Cheltenham last night then Hourihane would have had at least one yellow card following the incident when Scowen was floored and appeared to be seriously injured and the ref allowed play to continue. Connor was very abusive when after Hammill kicked to ball out to allow treatment. His language was easily audible from the away end. He then walked away but came back with another tirade. Needless to say Scowen was able to resume after treatment and completed the game (I,think). That said I am surprised refs and the FA have put up with it so long. Next holding and shirt pulling at "dead ball" situations. I will not hold my breath.
Having played, and still being a big fan of Rugby Union, it has been a log time coming. Let's see how they implement it, and if it is fairly implemented across the board, i.e. for all teams. What about Internationals? What about the waving the finger back-and-forth indicating the referee is wrong? I don't like this either.
Totally agree and wanted this for a LONNNNG time just like in Rugby Union... oh and make them call the Ref 'SIR' too like in Rugby... it is about respect and can only give youngsters coming into the game a sense of respect too... Again when there is an incident the only players who can approach the REF should be the two Captains .. again as in Rugby. That would also show very strong captain too. Football can learn a lot from Rugby... the 'Sin Bin' would be a fantastic addition to the rules.... also like Rugby AND Cricket the 'Blood Injury substitute' ... but all that is common sense... in what Universe has any governing body of football shown that... I mean just look at the stupidity and complexity they have invoked with the Offside rule... nonsense
At least one yellow card? Him, Sam and possibly Hammill would all have been off! It wasn't great to see them surrounding the ref and absolutely giving it some. 'Cheeky' to an extent but you really have to start questioning if it's alright for a player to do that when he starts screaming at the ref to **** off loud enough for everyone in the stands to hear, regardless of how bad the decision was.
Correct. I remember years ago Denis Law being sent off for telling the ref to F off . Refs haven't been enforcing this for years.
It will change nothing. The referees already had power to deal with abuse but never bothered to do their jobs. Why should we expect them to suddenly do it?
Like in rugby, in ice hockey only the captain & assistant captains can question the referee. Any disrepect and they get a 10 minute misconduct in the box and if they go too far they get thrown out of the game.
