After working most of my life for the same organisation, i have decided to accept a new challenge, and will be working at Shaw Lane Sports Club as a Community Engagement Manager.

I’ll be applying for grants to support projects for the good people of Barnsley.

    So, what is needed?

Mental health project due to start March using green spaces/ outdoor facilities.

    Walking football?

    Parent and toddler coffee morning?

    Older people’s drop in?

    Sporting memories/ reminiscence?

    Sensory room for disabled people?

Allotment/ Shed/ workshop for activities to improve mental health?

    Fitness groups?

Any ideas or interest, drop me a pm.

    Thanks

Coaching for 20 adults. They usually get it at Oakwell but this seems to have gone missing!

Having been part of a couple of the Fit Reds groups that ran a few years ago, something along similar lines targeted towards that age group would be a great initiative (and no reason why it couldn't run in a similar format for females too).

Thanks - Plenty of space and different activities to go at, particularly in the day time. Will look into it.

I’ll definitely be setting up a walking football session for older men and women - as it’s a sport I’ve got alot out of.

“FitRed Vets” still have an active committee and are reachable through Facebook. The original funding was from the British Heart Foundation as I understand it, which suddenly dried up some time ago. I’m sure it would be worth a conversation….

Bid writing is an art in itself, If you've not done it before, you need to make it a priority to find someone to show you the ropes.

Been doing it for about 15 years for the charity I’ve been working for. Just have to go into in knowing you can’t win them all. That said, I’ve done pretty well, and have a few funders where I’m successful more often than not. It’s going to take time to build up the funds but I’m pretty confident .

I've probably got every mental health issue there is. I run a successful business & manage it most of the time. You never get over it, or defeat it. I had an IQ of 150 until I got brain damage in a football match in 1991. I was kicked in the head. I never suffered depression till then. Since then I don't sleep, have headaches & serious bouts of depression.I still keep going, running a DJ company & the rest, but most mornings I want to put a gun to my head. That's just the way it is. Somethings are not going to change.

That’s tough, and I admire your resilience. I’ll never be able to be able to solve the issues that people have, but I do hope the stuff we put on will make life a bit better, more bearable, and maybe offer some distraction or even help people use physical activity/ social activity as an alternative to medication or whatever other relief they seek.
