Over 1,000 foreign criminals let loose on the streets. I'll bet that has gained the BNP another 10,000 votes.

But most of the criminal's had served their sentances in their own contries. I'm not excusing the error that these 1000 people were not CONSIDERED for deprtation and hence slipped under the radar, but how many BRITISH ex criminals are wondering the streets having learned their lessons.

Listening to the news last night you would have got the impression that these 1000 had all just been released at the same time, not over the course of 5 years.
You would also have got the impression that they were all murderers, rapists or paedophiles when only about 2% were….and, has you say, they had all served their sentence as dictated by the courts so in that respect absolutely no different to the many thousands of British criminals who have also been released over that same period having served their sentence and the authorities don't know where they are. Lets not become hysterical about this - if we are at risk from ex-prisoners then the chances are we are more at risk from those tens of thousands than we are from these 1000.
Again, as you say, this is not to detract from what was a failure in the system, and one that should be addressed.

You know that, I know that, but people I have dealings with have just had their fears (justified or not) 'strengthened', and hence my statement.

    It's the point though

that somehow 1000 "foreign" criminals are more dangerous than the thousands more British criminals that will have been released in that time.

Still,if the BNP (I know you did not suggest this, Infamous One) were in power, most criminals would be inside for life or probably die at forced labour camps

I'd probably say that the press are more responsible..

whipping up tensions and portraying something as worse than it is.
