Lets have no more gambles on relatively unproven managers who have no experience at this level........ and please, please no more gambles on back room or academy staff.

I think we would all be please to see the likes of Alan Curbishley or Steve Coppell... one thing i notice is that they have only managed clubs based down south (in and around the london area) and question whether they would be willing to relocate.

Other names to throw into the had could be Gordon Strachan, David O'Leary, Paul Jewel and Aidy Boothroyd.... Strachan would be class but would he come, and could we afford him? O'Leary and Jewel are local and looking for work and may be ideal candidates. Not sure about Aidy Boothroyd, had one good season with Watford and done little else IMO would be no different to SD.

Why do you think Boothroyd is no different to Davey? Promotion in his first season, Premiership in his second, play offs in his third. Davey - relegation battler, relegation battle, relegation battle.

    Strachan would be class but...

about as realistic an option as Coppell, sadly.

Just can't see how he'd want to go from Celtic, Champions League et al to Barnsley, Championship relegation scrap. Even if he was up for it, we couldn't afford him.

Get some Experience in ... Johnny Steele

wi Spud Murphy and Norm Rimmington, John Peachey & Mick Butler

    Peter Springett as goalie coach.

Apart from the fact that two of the have been really selfish and died, it's a dream team.

Gordon Stracken was set to be our manager before we ended up with Viv Anderson. The appointment was pulled at the last minute when he opted to stay at Leeds after Wilkinson made Stracken future coaching/manager promises. The press conference to anounch his Barnsley appointment was cancelled at the last minute.
Bit fortunate really as the Danny Wilson era may never have happened.

getting really funny looking at people's opinions on options now.

I think Strachan is about as realistic as Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger.

Personally, the more I tihnk about it, the more I think it is nailed on For Paul Jewell.
