You could do a lot worse than getting yourself a decent Hewlett Packard.

    Some good deals at Staples.

    Avoid HP like the plague...

..difficult to upgrade due to non standard parts / plugs etc etc

Dell would be my advice though Revvie P may give better advice

    I like Dell machines

Not the cheapest but very reasonable - a good choice for a beginner.
Got a friend an excellent PC for not-a-lotta here (NB - NO MONITOR OR PRINTER)

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=94538

but "out of the box" it is not very well secured for web use and I overestimated his previous PC experience.

If you get one of these it would be up to you to fend for yourself - the tech support available is quite limited. Dell would make a good choice for a beginner.

    I'd go for a Dell
