14 units now apparently, fellers. Be aware though - there is a misprint in the Guardian's story - it says "per week". Presume they meant per day?
Wait until they bring the drink driving legislation down from Scotland. Nothing like killing an industry
It's gonna be tough but I reckon I can limit myself to 14 units a day, during the week anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've never understood why there's any limit at all for driving. If you're driving, just don't have anything, surely? I imagine the vast majority of people say "I'm allowed one aren't I"? They're having a drink because they're allowed to. Also people driving the morning after. It ruins lives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't disagree with you that it ruins lives, but when you take something away that is established then it forces people to run to the hills and literally stop visiting the pub. Institution ruined overnight. Ask pubs in rural Scotland. They're having 'that one' because they want to, not because they're allowed to though. Don't agree with you there. If you look at dink/drive related offences, there's far less borderline ones committed than people being more than twice over the limit. That's through having more than 'the one'. Increase the punishment instead?
Anything that impair your ability to control a vehicle eg drink drugs mobile phones should be a mandatory sentence.
After getting to 67, I will be the one that decides whether or not I will have a pint. I don't need any scientist to tell me that drinking 10 pints per night is bloody stupid/dangerous . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You seem annoyed that the health industry is trying to help and educate people? Your liver is shot by now probably. I doubt they're targeting you.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The first 70 yrs or so there was no limit at all, although you weren't allowed to be drunk it was a pretty ad hoc system that purely relied on a Police Officers opinion. In 1967 the Breathalyser came into service and a limit was set that allowed people to have a couple (although again it's not an exact science) it allowed the the vast bulk of the population to visit pubs like they'd always done, albeit on a restricted basis, It also allows for people on medications which often contain alcohol, and people who naturally have certain levels of alcohol in their systems to carry on their daily lives normally. Personally I think the limit is about right in the UK in balancing these factors. I'm not sure of the figures these days but traditionally we have had the safest roads in the world, far safer than countries who have much stricter limits. The limit is only relevant however to sensible people, it doesn't stop the lunatic who intends to get drunk and never can..likewise with drugs.
Because a high percentage of drink drive related crimes are down to the person having the one drink. Not the folk knocking back between three drinks and twenty.
There is also the cancer scare recently published. Now even a small amount of alcohol can give you cancer. Wbere does this come from the BMA or bloody Saudi Arabia.
