New Road Tax - If you drive a car, please read!

Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2.
Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax.

The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the goverment to at least take any notice.

Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.

If you are concerned about this Orwellian plan and want to stop the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Sign up if you value your freedom and democratic rights -

Sorry, but this is just so much ********

There are no plans to introduce car tracking devices and no studies have been run on how much they would cost.

This is Orwellian alright - but only in as far as you are being manipulated by the media.

Is there even a news story relating to this, because the only thing I've seen is on the internet regarding the petition.

It was the leader on the BBCs political programme yesterday morning - not the tax itself but the success of the petition on the Downing Street website, which has attracted more than a million signatures now.

So still not an actual account of the tax

Just the power of the internet

I've tried a search and can't find anything on any news site that says such a tax is even being considered.

    The thing is...

It is not government policy at all. This is based on the report commisioned by the government into POSSIBLE solutions to road traffic problems. That report suggested that charging was the way forward. But that does not make it POLICY. It only becomes policy and then law when a) The Labour Party accepts it as policy, b) The law is changed to make it happen.

    TAX!

Heaven forbid that a labour government would introduce something that would increase their tax revenue!

    RE: TAX!

But would it actually increase the tax revenue? We've no idea if Road Tax and Fuel Tax would be reduced or scrapped. That's because this is not Policy.

There are plenty of things to get warmed up about rather than something that might never happen...

    RE: TAX!

That was my thought - if such a tax were introduced, it would be more likely to be a replacement to the current road tax.

RE: Didn't ask you to believe it!

No, you (by implication) asked people to sign a petition based on lies.

To be honest, I'd rather be a few quid out of pocket in direct taxes if it meant sorting out congestion. Not that I would be, I mean, I must spend hundreds each year in petrol that is spent sitting in queues, as must lorries full of produce which is then passed to the consumer. Not to mention money spent on the NHS to treat patients with asthma and other lung ilnnesses that are brought on or made worse by the pollution created by huge traffic jams in town and city centres each and every day.

Think beyond what you are being spoonfed and thnink beyond your own pocket.

    No thanks

I'll be selfish thanks and let do gooders like yourself worry about others. I live for me and my family not for you or anyone else.....................that should get you going!

I'll carry on believing what I choose to believe and as I said, I was just posting up information that I felt some people might be interested in, obviously you have got other peoples trobles and woes to worry about, so off you go and carry on, watch the ulcer by the way they can be painfull apparently!

I may be wrong but a lie is something that is an untruth, not something that may or may not happen as a result of discussions and debates?

    RE: No thanks

There are lies and untruths in your original post.

Do you think that your family are immune to all the costs (monetary, health and environmental) of heavy traffic? Do you live in a bubble or on another planet?

Its been known for years that the M1 Wakey to Leeds

is going to be the pilot for this scheme. Planned to start 2010 or so.

So poor beggars like me will pay twice! Once normal road tax and once for the pleasure of my dail 50 mile commute
