Barnsley chairman Patrick Cryne says that signing a striker is the club's main objective in the transfer market.

The Reds had one of the worst scoring records in the championship last season with just 45 goals.

"We can take advantage of the additional money that will come from the television deal," Cryne told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"We will definitely be looking to recruit in that area, in fact that's our top priority."

    so who would you like?

A creative/goal scoring midfielder should be our priority to play along side Anderson

Anderson is a far better player in my opinion - better tackler, better passer, better going forward

4th worst goal tally (45) since the 1920`s just shows how entertained we have been.

Past managers whose sides have created and scored so few have been sacked what makes Davey any different?

New manager, striker and creative midfielder who knows where the net is.

'Better going forward'. It isn't Colace's job to go forward. He's the defensive midfielder.

Agreed. Creative midfielder (who wont get blown away by a feint breeze) should be just as high on the priority list.

We always bleat on about a proven championship goalscorer but we had one of those in Mifsud. Our strikers are poor admittedly, but they are still left feeding on scraps

    Since he's released Souza

SD will ALSO have to look for a CB. Kozluk is out of contract too.

These two have played a substantial number of games (in a defence that has performed quite well), so not sure why he didn't give the both new deals before now.

SD could have been putting ALL his efforts into a new striker, but IMHO, he's making unneccesary work for himself.

Both of them need sat nav to find the net. Disappointing part of both their games.

Need some one like Sheridan was, tough in midfield to let Anderson forward more, liked it when Anderson was with Howard, good partnership that, Like Sheridan and Redfern

If Anderson wants to earn the big money

he's gonna have to start getting himself onto the scoresheet.

But Anderson isn't better at protecting the back four

Which is what his job would be playing alongside an attacking centre midfielder

    So was Anderson last season

Just because someone is a DM doesn't mean they can't contribute to the attacking play and Colace's passing is very limited IMHO

    Fair Point

SD extended a few contracts during the season though (Disco; JCR & Hassell spring to mind).

yep good point although id say they're much higher priority players than kozluk and souza, I also understand that kozluk is one of the highest earners at the club and souza has wanted a return to belgium, and there was also the incident where souza refused to be a substitute which may have been factors?

The priority has to be a target man...

Hume's a nippy little forward who runs in behind, Bogdanovic has stated himself that he isn't a target man and Macken will hold the ball up but doesn't get many flick ons or headed goals, thats why hes played so many games without scoring much- him being the only one who can hold up the ball! Someone in the mould of John Parkin would be perfect.
