I know this is very frustrating for everyone (including me) but I keep seeing names like Freddie Eastwood mentioned as a potential signing for next season. I just can`t see it. Firstly we won`t spend that much money on one player in the transfer market and, secondly, he`ll be on the wages of 4 of our players.
Frustrating as it is it just won`t happen - such is life being a Reds fan!

i think Freddy Eastwood is a very realistic target. he was at southend which we are a much bigger as they are and surley we could be able to double the wages he was at Southend.

Don`t you think that Wolves have not already multiplied his Southend wages to get him

I think we will pay competative wages

for the right player, without being silly.

I very much doubt eastwood (not that I particularly would like him to come here) or any other championship player, other than those at recent prem sides, is on multiples of the salaries of our better paid players.

Just look at the problem we had trying to sign West Brom`s third choice goalie

And is it not the case that goalscorers (or potential goalscorers) are the best paid players at most clubs. I just think our best hope is a loan from a Prem club or we will go for another Div 1 or 2 striker

    With the greatest respect

No one posting on this board had the slightest idea what sort of salary Barnsley Football Club are, or are not, prepared to pay to any potential purchase. That sort of information is always kept confidential and is never released into the public domain. There is, and always has been, a great deal of fans who CLAIM to be 'in the know', but it is never anything else other than total b0ll0cks.
If Simon Davey targets a certain player, then I'm sure Gordon Sheppard and Patrick Cryne will do everything in their power to bring the individual to the club. Players of the likes of Nyatanga, Steele, de Silva & Macken don't come cheap salary wise and Simon Davey had been successful in enticing them to Barnsley.
I'm confident that Messrs Cryne and Sheppard are aware that in order to bring a better quality of player to the club to fill certain positions this may well involve the paying out of higher salaries than has been done in the recent past.

all you need is a caravan pitch at primrose valley!!

I can't beleive he was that well paid at Southend?

Tried it a big club and didn't work out I'm sure he would jump at the chance of playing week in week out for us?? It would be the first time we resurrected someones career would it??

Is it me or does our academy only produce defenders and midfield players?

Certainly don`t claim to have any inside knowledge of the wage structure or anything-else and I have the utmost repect for PC and GS I just see it as simple maths. The crowds we pull and the previous problems of living beyond our means surely dictate that we cannot compete with many of our championship rivals. I would love us to sign Eastwood or anyone who would give us the prospect of 15/20 goals a season but I fear that we are more likely to do that by taking a leap of faith with a so far unknown foreigner or young Prem loanee than by committing to a big name (fabulous as that would be)
