REDS boss Andy Ritchie will take a look at Argentinean central defender Alessandro Melono during training this week.

Melono, who has had spells with Spanish side Mercia and San Lorenza in his homeland, watched the Reds in action against Yeovil and will train with the team in the next few days.

Former Manchester City winger Jamie Tandy will also play for the reserves against Sheffield Wednesday later this week

    and another!!

BARNSLEY will hand a trial to former Oldham and Northampton Town striker Marc Richards later this week.

The Wolverhamton-born hitman worked with Andy Ritchie at Boundary Park and is a free agent after leaving Sixfields at the end of last season.

He will join up with the Reds tomorrow.

    The standard of trialists

truly f.ucking woeful. Ritchie might was well be sat at his desk plucking clags, he's more likely to unearth summat worth a contract than the current bunch of no hopers.

    Have you seen them?

The lad released by Northampton doesn't fill me with toomuch confidence but I've no idea what the others are like. They might be good players. If you've seen them can you tell what your opinion was?

comment from an Aberdeen fan: "He's absolutely shocking, and knows it. But he's a big f.ucker."

Marc Richards looks like he's on a tour of lower league football, South American defender? I remember Matteo Corbo's appearance at Fulham....shiver.

Most trialists are likely to be appallingly bad, but it's worth the effort if we can unearth one or two players worth having.

At least it demonstrates that Ritchie is aware of our deficiencies, and is attempting to do something about them.

If he's a defender he'll have thought "I've no problem getting into this side!"

Without wishing to be on a permanent downer

He's been at the club ages in one capacity or another. I would have hoped he'd have sussed our weak as piss defensive capabilities and lack of strength physically and mentally by now.

    Perhaps I expect too much.

    You make a fair point.

I'm just so accustomed to our managers (Parkin, Spackman, Hodges) lacking even the most basic competencies.

    RE: Please

I assume that there are two kinds of trialists. Ones who are touted to us by their agent and ones who are invited for trial by our chief scout. Our chief scout who seems to spend a large amount of his time abroad. He has now been with the club longer than most of the other backroom staff and therefor must bare a lot of the responsibility for the signings and long list of trialists over the last few years! I wouldn't have said that his track record thus far was very good!!
I am probably biased against him as I had a touchline altercation with him about 30 years ago when he managed a local Sunday league side!! Quality of majority of recent signings leads me to believe that is what he should probably still be doing!
