The total number of Covid cases in New Zealand since the outbreak is 2300 and the total deaths to-date are 25. Bojo is happy to claim his current spat with the EU as a triumph whilst failing to take responsibility for his and his ‘halfbacks’ in government’s mismanagement that has resulted in >100,000 deaths. Jacinda Ardern is exactly what a Prime Minister should be, that is someone who is attuned to the needs of the electorate and understands how best to deliver them. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had such a sensible and ‘down to earth’ leader in our government.
Totally different country. By your logic we should also be comparing ourselves with Antarctica but everyone knows that would be silly
The only way it is a ‘totally different country’, @SuperTyke is that it is run by people who value human life over the profits of those in their address book.
The amount of tourists per year and GDP is pretty damn irrelevant. You may as well have written 'average height of human' omg it's similar. We rely on imports every second of every day to survive. They don't. That's a pretty big difference wouldn't you say?
So are you saying Bojo and his acolytes have managed Covid well ? Also look at death rates per 100k head of population between UK and NZ. Your reference to Antarctica is just silly. NZ death rate per 100k is 2 whilst the UK is 662.
Worst decision this government ever made was to not close down the borders immediately. Australia has a population about 4 times bigger than New Zealand yet still has similar death figure percentages.
It says since September on the NZ side but not on the UK side so is it since September or March? If March then there is going to be a huge difference, also NZ probably adhered to the rules better then some nupties here!
No they've done a terrible job but the constant comparisons are meaningless. You can't simply compare two countries based on the fact that they're both called countries, everywhere is different. A lot of the Asian countries have worn masks for years and practiced a lot of the things that we are now doing so they are totally different to us. A lot of the Scandinavian countries have vast areas with low density populations and one or two key high density areas. Very different. New Zealand and Australia have a lot of self sufficiency about themselves which is due to their location. Completely different to us. You've got countries like America with huge open areas and many small low density areas spread out across thousands of miles but with a totally different healthcare setup to us so it's totally different. We don't need to compare ourselves with other countries that are fundamentally different to ours. We don't need a sick league table to see our failings. We need to look much closer to home for that. Constantly comparing ourselves to other countries to either justify or criticise our response is as meaningless as comparing Barnsley's league position with that of Auckland City and saying Val needs sacking because they're doing much better in the league than we are. In reality the league's are different. Criticise bozo all you want, they deserve it. But don't do it on the basis that new Zealand with its extremely fortunate position has done better because it's not a realistic comparison.
Let’s be a bit fair here though, pretty much the whole world has cocked up their response to Covid, so just picking the best to compare our response is unfair imho. Also we have had one of the best rollouts of vaccine in the world but nobody has acknowledged that. Now nobody would say in general this government is any good but it’s hardly a stand out case.
Covid is spread through close contact There are only 3.2 people per square kilometre of Australia There are 275 people per square kilometre in England. To put that into perspective if you split England up into football pitches you'd have around 3 people per pitch. If you split Australia up into football pitches you'd have around 30 pitches per person.
Not quite right, the middle of Australia is vast and has hardly any population, its not equally spread, just like it isn't in this country.
The population of Australia is concentrated in about 7 or 8 areas. At a guess I would think there are more crocodiles and kangaroos per square mile in 90% of the continent than humans.
Exactly which is why like for like comparisons of countries is pointless when there are so many key variables. Take Sweden for example. Fairly high figures but nearly all concentrated in 1 or 2 areas. Take those extremely dense areas out if the equation and suddenly their figures look brilliant. You can't just say oh look at these stats, they're good, we're bad. Would Australia have taken the same measures as us if they relied on food from abroad to live? Nobody knows. Would NZ? Nobody knows. What we do know is that bozo has massively made a mess of things but he's done that regardless of what Australia did
Australia's 5 most populated cities- Sydney 5.2million Melbourne 5million Brisbane 2.5million Perth 2 million Adelaide 1.35million Our covid death figures from yesterday alone is higher than Australia's entire total since the start of the pandemic .
I agree we couldn’t completely put the shutters up but equally we could have done much more than we did, which was practically nothing. We went from busing the first two groups of holiday makers coming in from the Far East into controlled quarantine one week to letting everyone back in willy nilly a couple of weeks later. Only now are we insisting people spent 10 days in quarantine hotels.
Absolutely 100% agree. We should have insisted on quarantine for the vast majority of people coming into the country but I'm not really sure what could have been done for the fresh food supplies that we depend on for survival. Quarantine the drivers and the food would be off before it left the docks. Our failing on that one isn't the fault of the blond buffoon solely, it's the fault of his party and the labour party before that for not having any emergency plan for if the **** hit the fan
