i witnessed the worse team to come to oakwell in reserves and first team. yes that team was sheffield u followed by wednesday lot and then rotherham lot.

what i found with the red stripped lot was a set that couldnt do the basics. barnsley passed them off the field and then back on. between the passing moves they scored 6, yes 6 goals but it could have been 16.

Butterfield has improved beyond belief since last season and an attack on him of such a personal nature is wrong.

Newcastle havent bid for the blunt kid. Not according to Rob Staton anyway. And when the last young center half to leave the Blunts - Jagielka, and others - Walker, have gone on to be England regulars, then of course they are bound to get more money for their youngsters.
Our track record in that time of producing decent players, nemind internationals, is pathetic, hence, we cant expect clubs to pay X amount

Barnsley have a PE teacher in charge. Sheff utd have the best part of thirty years coaching experience in charge of theirs with deep knowledge of developing young players into first team players.

Barnsleys academy is leaking money. Sufcs pays for its self.

Sufcs keeps churning out players who fetch in seven figures and play at the highest level barnsley are lucky if they have pulled in a million and keep the lower leagues topped up.

Sheff utd have an extensive scouting network. Barnsley lack this.

Barnsley have a reputation of turning talent down on the door step. They end up elsewhere. More than one parent who posts on here have been down that road.

Its an expensive white elephant that isn't producing. It needs ripping up and rebuilding from scratch.

But of course DT knows more than Jacob Butterfield about the coaching skills of the u18's.
Just listen to what he says and you might learn something.
I watched barnsley vs Newcastle (u18's) this year, Joe Joyce vs the PE teacher. One of them knew what a good football team was, one relied on one player (Adam Campbell).
Neilredfearn leeds team got beat again and ripped about by passing football (from leeds forum)
Liverpool tv was very complementary of the pe teacher and so was the aresnal u18 manager.

 

Some of the best coaches I came across when I was doing my bit were School teachers, intelligent, excellent communicators. Some of the very worst were ex-England Internationals, arogant, thick, know it alls.

The Teacher at Real Madrid hasn't done too bad has he. There are loads of ex-teachers holding top jobs in academies.
