<font color="#6600ff">"Barnsley didn't come to win the game and got exactly what they deserved!"</font></p> Friggin hell, I thought we did well.</p> Of course we came to win the game!</p> Davey might have been somewhat negative in playing one up front but let's face it, it wasn't the walk over they thought it was going to be and I am well proud of our lads for putting up a show against a full strength Newcastle side.</p> Bring in the dough now from £30, 000+ attendence</p> Yoooooooooooreds!</p>
'Of course we came to win the game!' Sorry bur we didnt go to win the game, we played very very well until they scored but simply didnt have a plan b.
RE: what amount of the gate do we gaet Tina???? nt I'm guessing 40% but not absolutely sure... Think it's 40-40 and then 20% to the FA/League but I could be wrong.
Plan B was continue playing with ............. ..... one striker, even after Owen scored ....... until the 83rd minute ....... damage limitation exercise in my opinion with no real intention of trying to win the game, very odd attitude in a 'one-off' cup match. I think we should have had a proper go at them, they aren't that good and they would have **** themselves if we had gone one up
who gives a *****? we played well, got some cash out of it, and showed we were'nt a pushover like the Man City game a few years back. West Brom is far more important than Newcastle IMO
RE: who gives a *****? true but after such a good start to the game it was such a shame to see that we could not adapt. After all I though that Davey was overun with coaching qualifications. If thats the best he can come up with then is poor. To be honest I felt sorry for the players, we sent a boxer into the ring with one arm tied behind his back
We didn't go to win the game though Our sole intention was to contain them. We did this very well for about an hour and the lads worked very hard, but we had no attacking aspirations. That's alright while ever the score is 0-0, but after we went a goal down we didn't have a plan B and continued to defend a 1-0 deficit. Credit where it's due, we showed plenty of effort, but in the end we got exactly what we deserved.
RE: We didn't go to win the game though We did that plenty of times last season as well.</p> However it was considered to be negative to point it out.</p>
I'm not saying we didn't play well In the formation in which we lined up, we played very well. But if a team came to Barnsley and put 10 men behind the ball for 85 minutes and lost 2-0 we would say they were negative and got exactly what they deserved, no matter how much effort they put in.
i agree with you jay, i think it was a very cautious approach and one that may have succeeded. it seemed the approach was defence based, with teh hope that we might nip a goal against the head. If only we had kayode playing, that would have been more likely, but hey hoe. The system almost worked when our little peruvian should/could have hit the back of the net, putting is one up! But even after they scored, i think id rather lose by a respectable margin than get 5 or 6 past us because we attempted to open up the game. Even at 1-0 down, we could have still nicked one back to drag it to penalties etc so maybe plan b, was the same as plan a, but with a different intention, i.e. damage limitation. then plan c was implemeted at the end when little more damage could be done, and who knows, may have just had the time to get one back.
Be realistic no team is going to come to Barnsley and just defend, we had the worst defence in the whole of the football league last season. We've got to get out of this situation where we have to score at least 2 goals to win a match. If we'd have scored 2 goals in every match last season we would have only got into the playoffs. If you can keep a clean sheet you've got a definite 1 point and that would have seen us safe last season. We've had a rubbish defence for the last 10 years now and their confidence would have been shot to pieces if we'd played gung-ho against Newcastle and conceded a hat full and then gone to WBA on Saturday who we conceded 7 against the last time we went.
