Or alternatively give him a two year contract then insert a clause that let's a multi million pound player leave for 300,000 -now that is far more sensible :)

These long contracts are not what they appear on the face of it.

You would expect that Newcastle have the intelligence to have a moving pay scale (depending upon league position, which league, etc) for such long contracts?

If they haven't then they are crazy.

I'm just glad Mike Ashley isn't our chairman/owner.

I maybe dreaming..........but in the current climate when money is tight, my business instincts tell me that Football Clubs have the opportunity to get their finances back into some sort of sensible shape.

By this I mean contracts, wages, etc. should be coming back in favour of the Club and in-line with reality rather than the ridiculous earnings that the average (and quite often, below average) players have enjoyed this last 10-15 years.

This is why I am in full support of BFC's strategy of "spending within our means".......we are being true to ourselves.

True to ourselves and losing fans by the truck load ! I'm all for living within our means but what will be the rewards . Now is the time for football to get it's act in order but with sky throwing money at football too many are chasing the dream. Some will achieve it but most crash and burn. We were almost living prove of the later .

Aye.....so why don't Sky see the opportunity to "pull strings in" a bit?
