what do we expect to see... Panic buys to try to stay up Key player departures Give in to the experienced player or loan route A Jaw dropping signing A few more kids to bolster the squad and investment cycle Nothing All of the above Maybe a poll is in order? .
It'll be the best window in the club's history and we'll be handing out Crazy Conway paper masks at a far flung away game.
Woodrow out. Possibly Mowatt if there interest. Maybe Caravre if someone comes in given his contract situation. We'll probably sign 2 or 3 players I have never heard of who are under 23 and have played less than 50 professional games.
Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it. Many moons before we have to get our knickers in a twist again in January
Agree but I'd cash in on Mowatt and Woodrow (if all is definitely lost) and sign a hat full of players to beef the squad up for the League 1 campaign.
We've dismantled the promotion winning team. We haven't replaced the departed players adequately. We've sacked the popular & successful Head Coach. We're bottom of the division, with the worst goal difference. The people who made these decisions are still in place, with no consequences for their failures. Best thing to do? Promise jam tomorrow. "This time next year, we'll be millionaires!"
Eating Jam creates millionaires.... damn, where was this important information during my youth! Does marmalade count by the way? ;-) A grim inescapable summary though. I'm not sure if the owners have any straws left for us to clutch at, but if the fairly likely sales of Woodrow and Mowatt occur... I can't even imagine the hostility that will be aimed at them.
Thing is these owners are money men and Mowatt and Woodrow are just assets. My previous post was flippant and I apologise. However, I've resigned myself to losing our better players this january.
Do you think the owners misunderstand football fans in general? They're not from here, and don't get it like we do. James Cryne probably hasn't spent much time in the stands, if any. From their view point were just a rowdy, drunken lot, but a loyal one that will put up with anything they serve up. There are a hardcore of around 500 that rarely miss, home and away. Really a diverse bunch, but the owners probably only notice the louder, drunken ones amongst us and maybe think we're all the same. Turning up, drinking beer, singing but not capable of doing much thinking. Really makes you wonder.
We've just had the best, so January's will be better than the best. Better cos this time we'll sell our best players (a bit like last time, which we were told was the best) and we'll not sign any better players to replace the best ones we'll have just sold. But to all intents and purposes it will be better than the last best one.......................
I don’t think we’ll sell Mowatt or Woodrow until the end of the season, at which point it will be inevitable.
The board needs to be pragmatic if they want to preserve Championship status. I think that a minimum of three experienced players of Championship experience, or higher, would be needed to save the situation. I would be thinking in terms of half-season loans, which would not be exorbitant and would not tie the club to on-going high costs if the project does not succeed and we find ourselves in Division One again. I am thinking of the likes of Danny Drinkwater, who has hardly kicked a ball since moving from Leicester to Chelsea and is on loan at Burnley currently (anyone know for how long?) A half season loan for him with his experience to control midfield and to help give leadership to the players on the pitch would be invaluable. We would also need an experienced central defender. I was thinking of the likes of Gary Cahill, but he seems to have taken up position in the Crystal Palace first team now. We would also need a proven goal-scorer. I am struggling here, but there must be a few. I know that this sounds pie in the sky unlikely, but we can all have an opinion and we all want to protect our hard-won Championship status, including the Board, who are not lacking in funds, especially for half-season loans. I DO think that the summer signings have been 'scouted' properly, if only by spreadsheet, but their lack of experience, especially at Championship-type level, is showing early season. Two, or three experienced heads could really bring out the value and ability of these signings and it would be worth shelling some cash to do it. Anyone got any better ideas? I don't think that it will just be a case of 'man-up, lads.' What do we want? Another eight yellow cards against Brizzle City? We'll end up playing our Under-23s …… oh, hang on!!
Proven striker on a half season loan???? Shane Long; Gary Madine; Isaac Vassell; Chris Martin; Jordan Rhodes; Leon Clarke; Connor Wickham. Any other ideas? None of these fit with the recruitment policy, but it may well be a question of needs must. Oh! and I didn't even mention the name of Sam W from Wednesday. Were it not for his history with us, he would be ideal!! Would you?? Don't shoot the messenger now!!
Schmidt should be given a go first. I'm all for bringing in experience but what I don't like is players brought in like Oduor, Green, Miller and Schmidt that are farmed out or just not given a chance to impress. We did it last time we were relegated with Mallan, Mowatt, Mcgeehan, Knasmullner. Signed Mcburnie and Moore and dropped Bradshaw and played Mcburnie on the wing. I'm all for new faces when we exhaust our current options. At the minute regardless of whose in charge there's always a name or two that you think why the **** are they playing and the other player you're thinking of isn't on the bench?
