Good to see him hitting the form we expect from an experienced keeper.
Four clean sheets in eight league games. Unfortuantely many fans would prefer to wait for the first mistake he makes rather than give the guy any credit.

colgan on crosses scares the life out of me...

and start of the season when he was in the team i was devastated.

BUT i think that he is actually playing really well and now i'm very content for him to be in the first 11. he is a world class shot stopper (prem standard) and is great on one-on-ones and penalties. he is also a good kicker of the ball.

his ability and confidence to deal with crosses is increasing with every game and he is actually beginning to get some communication with the defence. i think that come the end of the season we'll all be eating our words from last season...and i hope i do.

only downside is that scott flinders is also a quality keeper and we can't give him the chance to be playing more regularly.

I am very happy Colgan aint letting goals in ,

there is no such thing as "shot stopper" it is a euphamisn for being a **** keeper unless the ball is kicked or headed straight at you.

He is plainly not premier class at goal keeping , he doesnt field backpasses very well and his decisions can be somewhat mystifying still e.g The shot that hit the post on Saturday , why didnt he just step to his right and catch it?

good to see you get the content in the post. "he is a world class shot stopper (prem standard) - put into simple terms for you...he is good at blocking and stopping shots (reaction saves) and as the rest of the post says he has his strengths and his weaknesses but he is obviously trying to improve on his weaker points and is facing his demons (crosses).

so before getting all sarcastic actually read the post.

No sarcasm , just an observation.

When Colgan doesnt have any choices to make he is fine , i.e Shot Stopping , but when a decision is to made he is still well short.

However as his teflon gloves are now setting up counter attacks then I see no reason for me to complain.

Could this also be because his defence is looking better this season ?? Carbon seems to get his head on nearly everything.

definately due to the defence also. carbon is proving himself to be a good player and if he can stay injury free could be a top player this year.

colgan isn't very decisive as we know...e.g. forest playing head tennis in our 6 yard box and he is glued to his line.

but he's getting better, the whole defence is starting to work together better and colgan is getting more confident. it is a great improvement and i like to see credit where it is due.

also well done to andy ritchie and the other coaches for turning two crap players with good reputations into far better players...tony vaughan is obviously a lost cause though.

Of course he isn't Premier standard - but then again we are in League 1!

He is a decent keeper for the division we are in.

Why didn't he get the shot that hit the post? It could be argued that he judged it well - I'm sure if Flinders had been in goal and done the same, people would have been saying just that.

It annoys me when people pick on one player and just pick at their faults yet react completely differantly when another player does the exact, same thing.

eaststander, you never ever let the ball hit the post if you can get to it

because you don't know where the rebound will take it to. if colgan read it and assumed it didnt need saving then he read it badly not well.

I fully accept that we are in Div 1.

Thus we have Div 1 players , whilst I seem able to accpet their limitations others seem to imply that we have any number of premier league players at the club, when quite plainly this isnt true.

i know what you mean about people saying we have premiership standard players at the club right now. this isn't true.

what they actually mean is that with a bit of hard work and a good season or two under their belt a select few players at our club may one day become premiership standard.

i also believe that if he improves his crossing a bit more then shuker will be one of those players. this season he has ran at people and beat them, he has scored goals and he has played a big part in the goals. you cannot ask for any more from an attacking midfielder except for him to get some good balls into the box.

i wish him good luck because you can't fault his work ethic or attitude on the pitch, he wants to succeed.
