    What's he been upto since he retired from playing? I can see why some want Hignett to return in some capacity. Got his badges, did alright involved at both Hartlepool and Middlesbrough. If we are to bring back someone from the past it shouldn't be just because of what they did as a player. They need some managerial/coaching experience in some capacity.

    Not necessarily, Flicker only had manager's assistant on his CV, and as far as I remember, Danny, Simon Davey, Norman Hunter and Alan Clarke (to name but a few) had none at all as they were all players when they took over (maybe player-assistants though?). Anyone with any pedigree as a manager won't come to Barnsley, maybe those with no experience but with bags of enthusiasm and the respect of the players might just make a go of it.

    But what do I know? Not a lot I suppose.
