And has turned down the opportunity to manage Nottingham Forest. http://www.burtonalbionfc.co.uk/new...ntinues-as-burton-albion-manager-3546093.aspx
Dodged a bullet there I reckon. The Forest job is the ultimate poison chalice with all that's going on there.
My mate who supports Burton won't be happy, wanted him gone. He doesn't think the chairman will ever sack him either so this was the best chance, don't think he'll be offered it again.
Yes, I have a relative who is a Burton supporter, and they don't like Clough at all. They wanted him gone to Forest and Jimmy FH back.
Easy to say from the outside, but they are punching massively over their weight at this level. I don't think there is any guarantee of anyone doing better than Clough there. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
This ^^ when we went there the attendance wasnt even 5k and they was 1800 reds and the tickets were very cheap. When half full at 30 quid our away end must genorate more money than the whole attendance at burton. And we are one of the smaller clubs in this league.
Must be a very tight ship there, maybe even running at a loss? Nigel Clough staying there and turning down Forest is some gesture of loyalty, considering the money he will have turned down. Bearing in mind the comings and goings in this window, he's gone up in my estimation. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Re: Dodged a bullet there It must be really bad no surprise that Rowett or Hecky were not interested but Forest must be to Clough what Barnsley is to Hecky. For him to turn it down and stay with Burton is a surprise. Wonder who they will try next. Danny Wilson?
Relegated and sacked then for his loyalty. Lol dare say it was more the bad goings on that swung it tho.
Rather than loyalty I think he's stayed where he is because Forest are currently a basketcase of a football club. If they get their affairs in order he will join them one year in the future.
Re: Dodged a bullet there True, but I think he left Burton for Derby for similar reasons and much too soon, Burton were just about to get promoted to League 2 at the time. The expectation at Derby was too much for him and it would be the same at Forest. I think he's made a wise decision, they love him at Burton and he's always lived near the town so it's a perfect match for him. It would be hard to imagine circumstances under which they'd sack him. When my 2 lads were 9 and 10 they played for a local team and entered a 5-a-side competition which was held at Burton's old ground (about 2002) and Nigel gave out the trophies etc. My lads' team got to the final so he gave them medals, seemed a decent bloke.
