Hello everyone, Firstly, sorry for invading your forums, but a friend of mine is Barnsley born and bred ("Frum T'arn 'an proud of it!!!") and I was talking to him about Nigel Spackman becoming the new Millwall boss. His reaction? "I would, as would the vast majority of Barnsley fans, hold him personally responsible for our fall into administration. He is, with all honesty the worst manager we have ever had." Christ. He said if I didn't believe him, come here and ask. Is it really that bad? Please tell me things aren't about to get even WORSE down here?!? Good luck in Cardiff Saturday!
By far and above. the worst ever Manager known to man. Aloof, arrogant, obnoxious, patronising, (anyone who was at the Supporter's Club Meeting' the night he first spoke to the fans will vouch for that!) Saddled us with a load of mediocre players on long term. huge contracts, communicated with the players (allegedly) with 'post it' notes, got our then Chairman to fork out huge sums of money to put the players up in a hotel on the eve of a home match!!!, where was the money coming from for that? Had no idea about managing a team, motivating players or tactics to win games, ie bringing on defenders when you are 2 nil down.
I blame him for almost everything and if I ever see him on TV I want to kick the screen in. Althought I am a mild mannered person, I saw him in Sheffield a while back and had to be physically restrained by my husband, such is my hatred for him and what he did to our Club.
I feel for you and if there ever was an example of 'jobs for the boys' then here is one.
Good luck, because you're going to need it .
That man should never be allowed within a mile of any football club.

Sorry but its all true. Some of his signings (on high wages) were the worst players I have ever seen. Absolutely no idea about tactics, coaching or player managemen. My sincere condolences.
true but i was one of many who welcomed him here despite his blunts saga, bit of a golden boy, done all the FA courses, all these contacts within the game, played at the highest level dont ya know... but a contributory factor must also have been the lack of 'footballing nouse' of our then board not to see more quickly how very bad he was or at least pull the reins in... i too cannot stand the sight of him on the telly and wonder how easily he'g get a job punditing if he'd destroyed a more fashionable club whilst i have nothing against your club i cannot wish him any luck and hope he screws up big time and we never see him again, twit
its all true ! dear nigel was indeed the manager who started ball rolling into administration , poor unmotived players , long expensive contracts.... its fair to say there were a few other contribution factors , like sacking a damn good manager in basset because the team was 12th in divison 1 !!
RE: its all true ! Swanning off to Majorca - the players were ill prepared in pre-season, getting Dennis to fund the players staying at Ardsley House on the night before home games was the thing that got me when it all came out afterwards, How the bloody hell could we fund that!!
Watching the team with the likes of Peter Sand and Kevin Donovan , oh my god it brings it all back - the misery and despair.
It makes you appreciate what we have now with Ritchie and Holden and an honest bunch of motivated and hard working players playing as a team.
And we're going to Cardiff!
How much did we end up paying Donovan the lazy shyster?!

I have to say .... .... I was also one (of many) that welcomed Spackmans appointment at Oakwell, but (has you will have realised with the other posts, to date), I doubt if you'll find anything good said about his time up here, he was the most hated person in 'Tarn' after his stint has our manager. Good luck for the future, you'll need it. (shithappens)
Can't lay the blame at any one manager for the fall into administration - more the fact that this season is the first season that the manager that started the campaign has still been in charge at the end since 1999-2000 when we last made the playoffs. We've chopped and changed managers far too much over the last 8 years following our season in the Premier, Spackman was one of those, he made some poor signings and some decent ones and did squander the cash, his main problem seemed to be a fixation with signing midfielders though. But perhaps if we hadn't appointed Hendrie when Wilson left then who knows where we could have been....it's all speculation and hindsight though and perhaps tomorrow the climb back can continue. Heres hoping we aren't playing you next season!
I hate Nigel Spackman. He ruined us, absolutely ruined us. It's taken us more than four years to recover from the damage he inflicted upon us. Where do I start? Isaiah Rankin - that average League One striker at Brentford. We spent £350,000 on him. Peter Sand - less able brother of Ebbe. He was brought in at a cost of £150,000, and shipped out again about two weeks later. We had to make a further payment to his agent to get rid of him. Kevin Donovan - the most cowardly wide player known to man. Known as 'Jellyfish,' for obvious reasons. We only stopped paying his wages last summer. Kevin Dixon, whose sole contribution was being sent off for the reserves before retiring injured. Sand, Donovan and Dixon were three of no less than 14 midfielders on the books at one point. Spackman appointed Ian Rush as a striker coach: an inspired move which saw us score nine goals in the next seventeen games. There's more, but it still makes me angry to go through what that man inflicted upon us. Millwall do not deserve him. No football club deserves to be saddled with him. I'd be extremely concerned about your prospects. You'll be in League Two in a year, I can almost guarantee it.
I quite liked him. But I also quite liked :- The Cray twins Stalin Deon Burton and The Chelsea acid bath killer. (poignant that one)
I went to see my mate in Barnsely a couple of years ago and we watched the home match against Hull. Everything about Barnsley Football Club was a joy to see. An over zealous 18yro (ish) Steward trying to stop me taking photo's of the ground was the only "bad" point of the day. Great club and ground, you should be proud. Truly, I hope you do beat Swansea on Saturday and that we AREN'T playing you next season
tander doesn't think we should put the blame wholly on to Sapckman!!!!!!!!!
Bloody Hell he was a 90% contributory factor - ask John Dennis!
Forgotten about Dixon, did he ever play a first team game?
Hell, how he wasted money that we hadn't got.

Oh Christ Ok, I get the picture. So basically, we're looking forward to relegation from League 1 next year and possibly administration? Terrific. And I thought things couldn't get any worse after this season Again, good luck against Swansea and thanks for all the replies.
I never liked Peter Doyle (for Millwall Fan's information, he was the guy who took over the chairmanship of the club after we went into administration.) However, he said one thing that cannot be denied: "People like Nigel Spackman should wear a bell around their necks so that we know they're coming." Never a truer word spoken. Tina - Dixon never made a first-team appearance. I've just remembered Lee Crooks as well. And Steve Hayward, the man with a hole the size of a coin in his knee. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|
Your mate ain't whistlin' Dixie. The Spack Man destroyed us. I think he's what you call "good on paper." Unfortunately we had to play on grass. And don't apologise for posting here mate. You're more than welcome.
Never thought I would feel sorry for Milwall fans but in this instance Good luck next season - you are going to need it
Oh and Spackman could have ben a prototype for this incident..... http://www.office-humour.co.uk/g/i/4214/
RE: Oh Christ Depends, some managers really **** it up at one club, learn their lesson and do well at the next one. Unfortunately I don't see Nigel as being one !!
It also depends how strong your Chairman is to stop Nigel if he stops Nigel when he starts getting silly.
Also bear in mind Spackers was a manager in a different time (2001/02) before the cold wind of economics had blown through the football league. There was a large contingent of fans who used to give the board hell for not spending MORE money. (including some on this board -yes you know who you are)
Anyway good look, please post again to let us know how you get on, it's only the morons we don't like posting on here and we have enough of them already !!
By the way were you aware, We're all off to Cardiff, we're all of to Cardiff, nar nar nar nar !!!
