"Our last game at West Brom confirmed what we already knew about our current squad. Our survival has been based more on guts and determination rather than strength in depth. Our players have given their all to keep us up and many have gone into games with injuries to fight for the cause. However, we have to accept that unless we make changes to our playing contingent we will be struggling again next season rather than improving. It is no secret that our defence was statistically the worst in the division based on goals conceded. It was noticeable that when we borrowed Nyatanga and Wallwork (who could not get into their own Championships sides) they improved our situation immediately. It was also noticeable that the Championship has players with outstanding pace compared to the lower divisions."
My take on this is that we will be trying to acquire players of proven Championship standard. Especially how this report makes reference to 'lower divisions'.

If that's the only criteria Then we're bolloxed.
He may be a world beater this lad, I dunno owt about him, but if after shipping out a load of players because the club infers they aren't up to the Championship our first port of call is the bottom division and Cheltenham, then mixed messages a go go.

RE: If that's the only criteria as you said , you dont know owt about him , so exactly how are we bolloxed?
RE: If that's the only criteria We are bolloxed if the only criteria for signing new players is 'pace'.
To me the clearout suggests that we've acknowledged where our problems lie and have already got a long list of targets.
I think we're in for an interesting summer of transfers, with some proven players at our level coming in. We won't go for overpaid idiots like Hendrie and Barmby like some teams have, I think we'll go for players like Nyatanga who have proved they can hack it at this level but find games limited because they're playing for sides challenging for promo.
ButI do also think that we'll look down a league for some gems who can handle the championship. Sure there will be some risks, but I think after Mattis (who has bottom tier standard) we'll have learned our lesson and make sure we know exactly what we're buying. The likes of Odejayi would be good investments imho.
I'm confident we'll have a much improved squad come August.

I very much hope so. Players of the quality of Nyatanga who can't get games are few and far between and won't come cheap. If we can't get Nyatanga then I'd be very interested in what plan 'B' was.
RE: If that's the only criteria as you seem to be an educated young man , do you really believe that the only criteria is pace ? where's willie ferry when you need him....
Appearances must be deceptive If you think I'm young and educated.
No I don't think pace is the only criteria. The club made a very valid point about pace in its report. I'd used the way they'd compared Championship players' pace to that of 'lower league' players to make the point that after emphasising 'championship' standards in that report, to the detriment of lower league players, apparently our first signing of the summer may come from a bottom division club. Hence my mentioning 'mixed messages' from the club.
I tried to distance this lad as an individual from that because he may be a superb addition to the squad, he may be ****, I don't know. It's not his fault ( or Mattis') if Barnsley hint that we are after players of a higher standard than we already have, then go to clubs in the 3rd division for these players.

RE: Appearances must be deceptive i think Cheltenham are in league 1 mate, see your point though. i'd be a surprised if all our signings came from lower leagues, i think he'll go for a mix.
