Can you believe it? Just the time of year we need to get shut of carboard due to presents and increased food wrappings, and they suspend the service. I knew they'd do this. I bet they aren't providing a weekly grey bin collection either. Gonna e-mail my MP about this..scandalous.
Got a bee in your bonnet about this one ain't ya? We have the same system in South Derbys but: 1) The Black (grey if you like) bins are collected every week in the winter. 2) You can't put cardboard or paper in the brown (green in your case) bins at all, they are meant for garden waste, grass and pruning cuts etc. which aren't generated in the winter. 3) There's a seperate collection for paper/cans/glass bottles. I think the whole scheme is excellent, my only gripe is that there's no collection for plastic bottles. Ade
Why dont they just give everybody a composter for the green waste. Save a fortune on the collections.
Plastic is not a "dense" enough susbstance. The council get "rewarded" by "weight" rather than volume. Therefore, collecting a green bin full of plastic pop bottles is of less "value" to them than a bin full of (say) newspapers. My understanding is that most authorities don't bother to collect plastic.
RE: Plastic is not a "dense" enough susbstance. It's not economically recyclable, hence would incur additional costs. And you're right, most don't.
Ironically If we all did our own composting / recycling, wouldn't this hamper the council's "efforts" to reach it's recyling targets?
