Reds stand firm over Windass deal

BARNSLEY have NOT tabled an improved offer to land Dean Windass from Bradford City.
A report stating that the 37-year-old was poised to move to Oakwell for £140,000 was denied by the club with chairman Gordon Shepherd stressing: "That is absolutely, utterly false."
Barnsley did approach Bradford chairman Julian Rhodes on Thursday with a £100,000 bid. It was turned down.
"An improved offer has not really been discussed, it has been mentioned in passing but that is not an in-depth discussion," Shepherd added.
"When I did talk to the Bradford City chairman he said that the player was happy and wanted to stay."
Rhodes confirmed the stalemate. "I have not heard anymore from Barnsley and I don't expect to," he said.
Windass added: "I've got two more years left on my contract here and whatever the club decide is up to them not me.
"I've had more interest in the last two years than when I was 24 or 25. It's flattering but I just want to play football."
Barnsley are giving a trial to 17-year-old Scarborough striker Michael Coulson.

    Actually

No better than we've got. He scores an average of 1 goal in every 3 starts, which is on a par with Hayes, Richards, Conlon and Wright and some way behind Nardiello. He's done that at a much higher level like.

No I was more fascinated with the principle that statistics mean nothing unless you find some that appear to back up your argument about a certain topic. Genius.

    No idea what you mean.

42% possession against Chesterfield & we miss 3 absolute sitters ... while the Spireites can barely muster a shot on goal.

Did I prove my point, or summat?

I knew you were in some zany off the wall argument with Mr coachman

But I thought I'd check anyway. Out of interest like.

After going round and round on this Windass thing I've come to the conclusion that if Ritchie wants a player, that'll do for me. I do wish he wanted Ian Evatt like.

Not zany, just incredulous at the double standards.

    Not according to Bradford Telegraph:

    Barnsley give up on Windass
Barnsley today indicated they were ready to call off the chase for Dean Windass.

The Tykes have not made an improved offer despite national press reports saying they were upping their bid from the £100,000 rejected last week.

The full version of this story is in this evening's Telegraph & Argus, and will appear on the website later tonight.
