Don`t count Cauley as he was a loan to buy, we couldn`t get out of that one. Magic Mike I had forgot about
Totally approve of the club's stance. Only have loans if there's a prospect to buy. Well done Conway et al.
It was but we didn't have to buy at the end of the season. As above the Woodrow one was just a way round the fact the window was shut. Once we took him on loan we had to buy him, it was a done deal essentially. Same with Bradshaw and Millwall.
One of the best bits about our transfer policy imo Develop our own, not other clubs. Also gives manager freedom to pick who he wants, when he wants. None of the parent club dictatorship statements with related penalties.
A good stance. I had a quick look through the 2005-2015 squads the other day - we must have had more players in those 10 years than the preceding 100 years. I don't even remember half of them.
I love it. Less loans the better. Got no time for players having to play a set % of games or having to pay more of the players wages if they don’t play etc. I remember the January 2017 shambles & how we ended up with 7 loanees to fill the squad & could only have 5 in the squad.
They have their place. I don’t think I necessarily agree with a policy of zero loans. If a loan player is the difference between relegation and survival...or top ten and top 6, I would go for it every time. Mutual benefit
I agree with the clubs stance and this is the first time in my memory that the club could field two first teams with the cover we have.
I mean I don’t think the club would turn down a no-brainer loan like McBurnie if they got the offer again, but loans like that very very rarely come up, and thus should be the exception not the rule.
They were both loans with a buy expectation. So depending on viewpoint, we’d set the model already or... we technically had 2 on loan.
Paul Warne of Rotherham was on RS saying he wouldn`t take anyone on loan if the parent club dictated playing time. More need to stand up to Premier League bullies.
I particularly liked the way Rotherham stood up to Manchester City when they played them at cricket last season.
