Don't know why they've done this, got a decent sized squad anyways and it always gives the fringe players i.e. Leon, El Haimour and Van Homeot the chance to get some games under there belt. Also when a player returns from injury they normally play them in the reserves for some game time again; strange decision for me.
Used to be used as a springboard for the youth team to break into the first team That doesn't happen very often now though.
Reserve team games are no longer competative Very few sides put out a decent reserve team and I think most of ours end up being academy players? I think its generally perceived by the club that players can be brought up to match fitness in training with reduced risk of injury?? No doubt the official "academy" status will be next to go as FA rules are far too restrictive on clubs with limited resources.
Academy will be next and we will end up with a small squad of imports from around the world and the money saved can be given to agents great forward thinking
