No great loss. Came out with the odd good single but didnt really do anything since the Morning glory days...
They've been **** since 'be here now' to be fair. It's no loss. They're not even 10% as big as they think they are.
To be honest, he is Oasis He's only getting rid of his maungy brother. He has to, he has greater things ahead. Greatest living "current British Music Star still with something to say" is up for grabs. Older than than the kids, but not too old to be a dinosaur... Van Morrison, Paul Weller, Jarvis Cocker, Billy Bragg, Morrisey, Jools Holland (tripe), after that you are into dinosaurs. Gallagher voice of a nation, the stage is yours.
Saw them at MK oval in 2005... I seriously thought I was gonna die, not only was there the manic crush but we had some asian bloke infront kept rummagin around in his rucksack (it was 2 days after the 7/7 bombings in London).... he got chucked out in the end for dishing out dope. Scarey but a good show. Downhill fast tho since.
That's not quite true now is it Whether you like them or not, they still sell records, they still attract new fans with every album, and they still sell out all their shows. I'd say they are just as big as they think they are - unfortunately! Saw them four times before the millenium and they were fantastic. Lost interest in them after that.
RE: this Oasis thing haven't they 'split up' dozens of times before? Anyway, IMO they went downhill from Definitely Maybe/Morning Glory. Pushing the boundary they never were, but, they did write some very good songs. And this is from a Blur fan
RE: showing my true Blur colours as regards "current British Music Star still with something to say", i dare say Damon Albarn will be doing it for a lot longer than Noel. And with relevance.
RE: showing my true Blur colours Yeh, Albarn is in the mix for sure. I agree with the observation above though, Weller's crown will not be taken easily, if at all for a good few years.
RE: What constitutes a "dinosaur" Aye, well spotted, he is amongst the McCartneys and Townsends. Not done owt relevant for about 20 years. He is a dinosaur. In fact Van Morrison may just be the Diplodocus of British Music, slow but persistent, a bit like a zombie with good tunes.
Down hill fast since Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants Pleased to say ive seen them afew times live, but its no great loss to the global music scene. What with the likes of Lady Gaga, Pixie Lott, La Roux & numerous X Factor winners ready to replace what at 1 point was the best band in the world. I think we are going to be alright
