I bought one yesterday and although it does a great job the bloody exhuast hose on it is too short to hang out of the window without balancing the unit on furniture.

The only place I can find on the net that does spares for them wants £30 just for an exhaust hose that is longer and you attach with duck tape (I'm not joking there).

Anyone know anywere local that'd sell this stuff?

    It's rather ironic really

but using air conditioners contributes to an increase in the outside air temperature which leads to further global warming and the desire to use air conditioners!

    p.s. It's DUCT tape....you aren't taping up ducks!

The council will come round and poison them if you can prove they're a health hazard.

But it's much quicker to do it yourself.

RE: Would something like a Tumble Dryer Vent hose fit?

Not insulated enough for the air con units apparantly ... they produce more heat

Might be able to help Daz. What size hose do you want to attach to and why does it need to be insulated? Is it because too much heat would be returned to the room or just that the plastic one wouldn't cope with the heat?

    No, I'm not having that.

An air-con unit doesn't create or destroy heat energy, it just moves it from one place to another. You have to keep using air-con units to keep a room cool which means that heat continuously returns to the room via the windows, walls and natural airflow.

    Have that.

And air temperature outside in cities is rising as a result....also the use of additional electicity contributes.

Saw report last year on BBC website...been trying to find link to it.

Bought one yesterday from B&Q, doing a good job in my conservatory, what I did was, hired a core drill from HSS and drilled straight through my wall and put the exhaust through the hole, then, I put a proper vent cover on the outside wall, proper job, looks professional, took about 1 1/2 hours.

    RE: The same BBC website...........

Air conditioners don't just move out warm air though....they "condition" it and make it cool so work more like a refridgerator. Blowing out cool air and dispersing warm air outside....the air passed outside is warmer than that you had in the room in the first place....much like the heat generated at the back of a fridge, there wasn't that heat before but a cooling unit also creates heat.
