..... if so, best place to stay? hotels? ...... and is it really 60+ miles from the airport? If so, best way to get to the city centre?

nowhere near 60 unless Ryanair drop you in the middle of nowhere:) -we got a taxi for 20ish euros

loads of hotels-depends on your price range-make sure you do the Nou Camp visit-excellent-and the round trip bus is well worth it-you can get off at the Nou Camp-lots of decent eateries off Ramblas

I went last year for England match

Not 60 miles from airport, about 20 mins in a taxi and cost about 30 euros.

I stopped on Las ramblas which is best place for hotels

    depends who you go with..

if it's Ryanair then it's Girona airport, and cost us about 35 euros each for a private transfer (6 of us, return)

ryanair do a shuttle bus for about 13 euros each, but then there's the taxi at the other end, finding your way, etc, etc...

we stopped just off la ramblas - apparently it was the old red light district, but we didn't know till we got there.. a bit rough to be honest, if I stayed there again, I'd look at the gothic quarter on the other side of la ramblas, far nicer.

lots of restaurants, go to port olympic for the night out though, casino, waterfront bars, etc. Las ramblas is quite pricey and v v v busy....

and if you're doing the sightseeing (and not just boozing :)) then go on the tour bus and you'll see most of what there is to see... and if you're really sightseeing, then do the helicopter trip over the city, that's mint.

went for a weekend a few weeks ago

ryanair fly to girona from donny, when you get therebuy a bus ticketin the airport and walk outside and theres a shuttle bus waitingto go tobarcelona. About an hours travel from there and then get a taxi or metro from the bus station to your hotel. Taxis aren't over expensive.

if you go to the nou camp and want to go on the groundtour, make sure you give yourself time to get there, we missed ours by 10 minutes and didn't have the time to waste another 3 hrs waiting for the next one. Its a fair old slog from the metro to the ground.

if you want the name of a decent hotel drop me a pm

We went a couple of years ago, stayed top end of Las Ramblas which is pretty central. It's nice down at the bottom of Las Ramblas near the marina but can't remember seeing any hotels.

Nou camp tour is a must. I also recommend sightseeing buses as they go everywhere including right outside the Nou Camp and they're only a few quid for a couple oif days.

    My Recommendations

You can get a train from the airport into the city. BE WARNED!! as a couple of posts have mentioned pickpockets are everywhere had my wallet stolen waiting for the train. Gothic quarter best place to stay just off the Ramblas but don't eat on the Ramblas prices are double streets just off are as good. If you want to look around take one of the tour buses pay once get on and off as many times as you want and you can change routes you can get to see everything try Parc Guell and the Nou Camp. Hope this helps but keep your belongings safe!

    RE: Non-footie post ..... Barcelona ........... Apartments

For somewhere to stay - I've stayed in these apartments a couple of times - www.desigbarcelona.com

Really nice, modern ones, and very reasonable prices - cheaper than a basic hotel.

Good location too - just off Las Ramblas.

As with some of the other posts - beware of the thousands of pickpockets! I've had a wallet and phone nicked on 2 separate trips. Mates I was with also had stuff nicked.

Beautiful City .... be even nicer when they finish the Cathedral

still, only been c.100 years so far. And they sleep in an afternoon, so.........

Anyway. The red and blue bus tour is a must as mentioned. We stayed at a place just up a bit and on a bit from Las Ramblas, Hotel Catalonia Berne; was Ok for three days. Tapas bars are a must, as is the obligatory tour of the Nou Camp (hard to believe we "may" get to play in a ground like that next year). My favourite resaurant there is called .......... **** .............. mind's gone blank................. I recommend it nevertheless

How anyone thinks its good I do not know. A crumbling concrete wreck in worse condition than the old Wembley with dressing room facilities that come nowhere near most Premiership clubs.

    Been a couple of times.

The first time I went was a stag do. We left a club in the marina area at 6am in the morning and a team of pickpockets took advantage of the fact we were ever so slightly inebriated. Before we knew it they had phones, cameras, wallets. One guy was on the phone reporting his credit cards stolen when another came running up and nicked his phone out of his hand.

I didn't realise that I'd been done until the following day. By the time I'd woken up they'd spent 4K on my bank cards.

THe second time I went my mate got pickpocketed by a group of women on Las Ramblas as they pretended to grope him in the street.

Having said that I still enjoyed both trips. Just watch out for the theiving gets.
