Is there a way to disable notifications from a particular group on whatsapp? I am in a workgroup and wish to disable contact when I'm not in work but still get contacts from my general contacts.
So far I've figured out how to have no notifications but not to be selective. In effect is there a way to manually block a group when I leave work? Cheers

Select a conversation with the group and tap on the group name at the top. There's a new feature called "custom notifications" which you can play around with.

Yes, that stops pop up notifications, but it still puts the number of messages on the whatsapp icon. I then see the messages from the group when I go into it. I know I could just ignore it, but I use whatsapp to communicate with my kids and when I'm not working I like to shut off and not see the banal drivel I have to deal with daily. It's bugging me now! Thanks anyway.

It's a bit of messing about but you could block the group temporarily, then unblock it, and repeat. Would that achieve what you want? It's in Settings->Account->Privacy->Blocked Contacts

I tried it with my wife but she just texted me instead.

Last attempt, there's a Mute function somewhere, but the messages still come through I think.

Agree with you about the general concept, same with work emails.

Maybe suggest he uses Skype instead, so you can set yourself to Offline or whatever when you're not at work. Just a thought.
