having to put an external cv together now. Many years since I did this. My last company insisted on using 3rd person i.e. x did this, x achieved that, x intends to develop y skill this year etc.

Is this still this accepted practice or should I use 1st person?

    Ta!

As somebody who sees quite a lot of CVs it makes no difference to me at all. If anything I prefer 1st person, but it wouldn't do anything to sway my opinion.

Definitely not 3rd person. Can use first person but it's better to be passive and avoid using an excessive amounts of "I"s.
"Achieved...." or "Responsible for...." rather than "I achieved..." or "I was responsible for".

There's plenty of stuff online to help.

First person is fast becoming the norm, reads better too. The idea of writing it in the third person just seems weird to me, but there you go!

Hopefully it'll be easier for you to write it first person, though I know from experience how much of a ball-ache it can be when you haven't done one for quite a while.

    Thanks all.

I have written it in 3rd person but easy to adapt to 1st. never liked 3rd person anyway it always feels 'strange'but tailoring it to the specific job is more important anyway I believe.
The main problem is convincing the prospective employer that after a year or more 'out' (intentionally) after taking voluntary redundancy package from a high pressure, well paid job that I am serious about the job in question as it is a far lower salary and much less responsibility.
