Around 10 - 11 years ago my car was stolen, I looked the registration number up on that new Quick Quote app & the car showed up. Does this mean that the car is still out there on the road somewhere? If so, do I still have any claim to that car? How would I go about getting it back if I have?
I am not speaking from experience - just guessing. Did you you get paid out by the insurance company? If so it's their property. So if it did and was recovered then they could have sold it on. However, if it wasn't insured did you record it as stolen.....I'm not 100% sure how these cars are taken off the system. Written off cars are registered with DVLA and so get taken off these systems. but if it was never recorded as destroyed it could still be on the DVLA system as being out there somewhere. Check if it's taxed on the DVLA site. If it is and you haven't been paid out - you could have a claim for it. If it's not taxed it tells you the last date it was taxed. If this was the last time you taxed it then you should tell the DVLA when it was stolen or they might come to you for not declaring SORN! (stranger things have happened)
Have a look with this, you can find if the vehicle is still taxed etc. https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e1s1
Yes I was paid out, although nothing like the amount the car was worth, it was a 1993 Rover Mini British Open Classic in absolutely mint condition with extremely low mileage, worth around £5k at the time so probably worth a lot more by now if looked after as I did. I ended up accepting a derisory £2100 due to the insurers dragging their feet & taking 17 weeks to pay me out, they even sent a loss adjuster from Biggleswade & attempted to say I "had" it stolen on purpose!
Thanks for that, it's currently listed as unlicensed & the last time it was taxed ties in with when I owned it. At least I know that no other bugger is driving about in my pride & joy!
