They have to pay back a £10.25million loan to the council today, and HMRC are after them, too. Hi, my name's Matt Dunham from Robson Rhodes. I hope to keep you operating as a going concern.
Didn't we redevelop our stadium as we did because we didn't believe the current structure was stable enough to make all seater, which is what was required under that report (name escapes me, from the Hillsborough disaster). Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Justice Taylor report-recommendations top 2 tiers of football league had to be allSeater stadia by a certain deadline. Dispensations were given to a few clubs who were planning on moving (Sunderland springs to mind). We had Eaststand built with Carl Tiler money, Ponty end Gerry Taggart money, North stand was Ashley Ward money but we didn't,t have to do that. We did really well during this period considering how much of our resources went towards redevelopment. Contrast this with Fulham who were Backed by all- Fayeed and Keegan at the helm, they climbed the divisions concentrating their finances on the team as they were exempt from Taylor report and didn't rebuild their ground until they hit the top.
I still think we overdid our stadium we should have just made the East stand a single tier and then also replaced the west stand. A ground capacity for us of between 15,000 and 20,000 would have been well more than adequate. I also think the north stand is too big . We get the odd cup game or derby when we may get it reasonably filled but that's about it. For me a capacity of 18,000 would have done us . We could have made the stands the kind that can be upgraded if required , like many new grounds today are.
Re: I still think we overdid our stadium We got more than that every week in the Premier League and it was full to capacity. Had it been as big as it is now, we'd have filled that too. John Dennis was an ambitious chairman. He wanted to take us to the Premier League and build a ground fit for the purpose. He achieved both. We may have had our ambition kicked out of us, but it doesn't mean what we did at the time was wrong. I like Oakwell and I still believe we'll fill regularly again some day.
Re: I still think we overdid our stadium Spot on wouldn't change oakwell for anything. Proper ground.
Re: I still think we overdid our stadium I think you're wrong about us ever filling it regularly again. I fear football has left us behind; the plucky punching-above-yer weight team that is better than the sum of its parts most seasons. I think you're wrong, but I hope I'm wrong. Maybe things will change with regard to FFP actually having some teeth; or maybe someone will buy us. That's the hope, I guess. Lose that, and there's no point going.
