I was at Swindon today but as I am pretty hopeless at match analysis I won't do a match report. What I would like to do though is say a word or two about Brownhill. I think we have a good un here. He is unobtrusive but he is here there and everywhere - picking up the bits and pieces and doing a grand job with not a hint of flashiness. Also George Williams again impressed and once again nice to see him go over to a couple who I assume are his mum and dad at the end and give them a hug. This was just before Lee Johnson came over and gave him a hug. He is certainly grasping the opportunity that Aidy White's injury has given him. Didn't read anything into Sam Winnall's attitude at the end - he saluted the fans as he always does. Great support throughout from those who travelled. Great team spirit.
I,ve watched him closely on the match playbacks and I like the look of him no frills and lose count of the number of times he gets a foot in and takes takes the ball off the opposition looks a good in to me.
Eh? Didn't Ben play with Hammill, White? Anyway, I'm not arguing. I liked Ben and so far I'm impressed more by Brownhill.
Me for one more than happy with our side of the bargain. We might be able to sign him permanently at end of season if he continues to impress, unless PNE realise the dreadful errror in their ways by then ?!
Went today also and agree with your comments. Is grove on fire in the first half. They couldn't handle him. Also Mawson and long looked rock solid. So much spirit in this group. Well done to LJ and his management team. Doing a great job.
I can assure you Brownhill is absolute class. He's not playing with confidence yet and although he's doing well it shows. There's a lot more to come from him. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
My feelings exactly, based on the two games I saw. You went today, so even more credit to your opinion.
Thought the Hourihane/Pearson combo in the centre of a four set us on this winning run and pulled us out of the black hole with Hammill being the catalyst. We had good results with those two together with the exception of Wigan who ripped em apart. Brownhill has come into a side whose confidence was on the up and has slotted in perfectly, hitting the ground running. Whose the better player, who really gives a **** the transition from one to the other couldn`t have gone smoother. Got to say though Hourihane in that role looks more of a rounded player nowadays than when we first played him there, seems to have matured more and the captaincy seems to have made him more responsible.
Soreight fella, they played together in other wins as well after that depressing 8 game losing streak. Just hope we can keep this run going, would be good if we can keep Long until end of season.
Good to hear this, TQO. It seems that even though we're still bringing folk in for short stints the players we're taking are less hit and miss than our close season signings/loans. And we're doing a nice job of converting the better loanees to longer deals. Hope you're right about Sam, but at least we can have a bit more confidence that whoever we go forward with should be OK. Hopefully, Wembley will be another nice close gig for you!
Yep that back 4 as is now is looking pretty damn fine compared to where we were a very short time ago. Long has tightened it up, Bree has been excellent since he came in and as well as Aidy White played before he was injured, George Williams aint put a foot wrong either and thats playing on his supposed weakened side. Mawson looks a better player without pressure of captaincy and hopefully it will carry on with Long next to him. Need some luck with injuries, to keep SSW at pretty much all costs and keep players feet on ground and who knows.? Added bonus of Hammill to come back in an all. Not even happiest of happy clappers could have been forecasting this but long way to go mate still and a big 48 hours or so. Cant wait to get to Fleetwood on Thurs now for JPT and am reasonably confident for if the lads perform as they have been
One thing that is clear to me is that current crop hold their positions in a flat disciplined 4-4-2 IMHO when we had Pearson and Wabara in the team we lost shape and created gaps in central midfield and attack. Both lads had great energy and liked to get involved at both ends of the field. LJ said early season Winnall was guilty of this, and they had talked about holding position rather than go hunting for the ball. And we are now season the difference in both team play, and specifically goal return from Winnal. Conserving energy and being on the end of balls.
