I would have posted it earlier but couldn't login for some reason. What a 24 hours eh? I thought I'd do one of these rather than spend all night on here.
I'm being serious for once, Gaz. I've been ill for about two weeks. Not in a bad way or owt, just a cold. Headaches, bad chest, nose, and proper bunged up. Never had owt this long. Have I got bad aids?
I thought you were putting on your 'I'm poorly voice' the one you do to your boss at 7am on a Monday!!!!! Good listen tho that. Apart from the sniffles! Sending muchos hugs from Tarn xxxxx Mwah
As you know, I like Lee Johnson. I supported him through the bad times and it gave me great pleasure that he came though it. I think that he will make a fine manager. All that has absolutely no bearing on his decision. The main factors for him are not to do with leaving Barnsley. That is inevitable eventually if he is as good as I thinkhe is, and as he thinks he is. It is to do with whether this is the right move at this point of his career. Now I am not going to say that I am in any position to second guess his decision, but as you have pointed out, Bristol City is not ideal. The question for him is whether he goes now, or whether he thinks he can push Barnsley to a level that will give him a better route to the big money. Football people are not like us. They are driven by the ambition to achieve the most that they can. Our football club will always be the grain in the grind stones, between the ambition of those on the inside and the hopes of those on the outside. It will always be the grist to the mill and it is important that the owner is not ground down by it. I am reconciled to the fact that LJ is gone, if not now, at some later date. Nevertheless, there is a lesson that being patient through the bad times should have taught us all. Instead of his dismissal having cost the club £300k we will actually make a similar sum, a turn around of £600k. We have a visit to Wembley to look forward to, and a pay day that could amount to £500k. Sam Winnall and Connor Hourihane are much better players, and we may well cash in on their improvement in the summer. Johnson has left us plenty of presents to mark his departure, and for that our reaction should be thanks rather than abuse. He has not improved our league position, but that was always going to be a long term plan. A plan that he will not now see to fruition. The king is dead. Long live the king.
It doesn't quite have the ring, does it. Just in passing, many on the BBS have emphasised that the turn around is nothing to do with Johnson, and that he is as bang average as ever. It has been said that it is down to Winnall, Hourihane or Hammill, and that their performances are nothing to do with Johnson. It has also been said that our disastrous autumn was down to Johnson's persistence with the 4-5-1 system, and the improvement down to a change to 4-4-2, just like everyone wanted. So here is my question. Can you explain to me the subtle differences between 4-5-1 and 4-4-2 because I don't see it myself. But then again, I am old and am getting a bit senile so I need one of you young people to explain it to me.
No idea, and no interest mate. As you will have realised if you've heard all 16 Not a Podcasts and read all my posts down the years, I don't really talk tactics. I'm not a qualified coach. I watch players and might suggest player 'x' was **** so maybe player 'y' needs a chance, and I do have opinions on the club setup, the way its run etc etc. I'm gobby. But tactics ain't my bag. I do though always prefer Barnsley sides with two up front though. I can't explain in detail why that is, but they seem more exciting to watch and the best BFC sides in my 28 years watching the club played with two up front.
Good to hear someone else is suffering from the dreaded lurgy like me! After the 90 minutes, I wan't convinced that bloody referee would grant us 5 penalties in the shoot out!
It certainly was, mate. And our Wembley Weekend is a little more organised than it was yesterday. Not a Podcast back tomorrow all being well.
