But I’m so happy Peterbourgh won today. I’ve had the unfortunate experience of attending Birmingham games. None have been very pleasurable. Once at Oakwell and twice at St Andrews. Last time was six years ago. Went with Sparky who advised me to bring along a crash helmet. Wasn’t needed but there was a nasty undercurrent. Really all uneasy. Horrible club, fans and city.
Yes, 2nd City, just as much a shíthole and filled with twàts as London. Edut. About the match, not seen it, but Brum were champions yesterday, have they been out on the píss last night?
Brummingham will still say they've achieved what they wanted of course. And that was to walk it straight back up, as winners, of the Third Division. It might be interesting to see if all that money makes them competitive now in the Championship, or will they just be also rans, again.
Whilst I think the Birmingham and surrounding clubs are the most unwelcoming around. Their hatred of each other goes beyond most other clubs imo. But as a City I have to disagree to it being as bad as some make out. It has its issues but not much more than any other. My lad went to uni there for 3yrs and enjoyed living there. Don't just take my word for it. Birmingham is an animated hub of culture, commerce and community. As the UK's second-largest city—and one of just 5 UK cities to be listed in the 2024 World's Best Cities—Birmingham combines modern innovation with history. As a club I have no interest whatsoever into where they sit in the scheme of things. Likewise most others.
I was at the playoff semi final 2000 and was sitting with the home fans (a Jaguar cars work mate got me the ticket). It was the most unpleasant experience at a football match I've ever had and I'd stood in the Scratching Shed at Chelsea in 1982. Total contrast to sitting with the home fans at Villa Park in 1998 in the Premier League where I was actually congratulated at the final whistle (we won 1-0). I don't get why there is such a difference between the 2 sets of fans, they must be work mates, school friends and probably from the same families yet once they arrive at St Andrews, something happens to them.
In march, my son treated me to seeing Zakk Sabbath at the O2 in Birmingham (Zakk Wild's Sabbath tribute). We spent the day walking round the city particularly the Chinese quarter, where we had a fantastic meal and at the canalside where we had a beer. The city has definitely improved since my mate worked there in 1979 when it was a proper dump.
