How many players do we actually need before the start of the season? I don't mean how many will we bring in or what would you be satisfied with - what do we actually need for us to have a competitive squad for next season? By competitive I mean challenging at the right end of the table as this should be the requirement for the club with the third largest income in the division.

    David Flitcroft would say 38.

    I'd say about ten.

    So I'll go with ten.

It's a tough one because if you include the youngsters who have been involved in the numbers then it's always going to seem like a ample number but it's a fact of football that most of them just won't be good enough.

    1 x LB
    1 x CB
    1 x LM/RM
    2 x CM
    2 x ST

    So 9 players minimum.

And thats assuming RNL & Digby are up for making 30+ starts this year. As well as Smith and Bree being adequate cover in the fullback positions.

I was thinking about nine or ten myself. So we need to bring a new player in every other day from tomorrow until 9th August. Best get cracking.

Ruben can't be far off a testimonial so if he's not ready now, in League One, then why is he even at the club?

    I'll say

    1 - experienced GK
    1 - LB
    1 - RB
    1 - CB
    2 - Wingers
    2 - CM
    1 - Striker

    AT LEAST.

The decision to release someone as experienced as Bobby Hassell is looking stranger by the day.

Exactly. Its a make or break season for Reuben. If he doesn't have a significant positive impact on the team this season, I think he'll find himself trying to work his way up the leagues again.

    I'm confident he'll shine though.

Hope you're right but for me he peaked about 4 years ago and has looked progressively worse as the years have gone by.

Dawson wasn't a Lloyd player. Think about it.

If we want to avoid relegation we need to get in 6/7 right players now.

We have to go backwards to move forwards.

No. We won't get relegated next season though. It will be hard but come end of August we'll have players in that Danny wants and we'll have a decent team. It might take a few months to get sorted but it will be fine.

Surprised that someone who has talked about different approaches and longer term thinking is now jumping up and down because we've not signed players this Summer. The bloke in charge of the football team knows what he's doing.
