Nowhere near the best we have played this season but Swindon were VERY poor. Good goals but I wish the strikers would score. Richards missed a sitter near the end after good work from Wroe. My man of the match Davaney - looks dangerous eveytime he gets the ball.
"I won't go today" - STUPID DECISION!! Freezing cold, bound to be, risk of sleet or black ice coming back over the hills of the A417/419. Stay at home and listen to it all warm and self-satisfied that I didn't waste my money yet again going to the County Ground. Dammit!! Great result though and, as you say, sounds like Swindon were poor. Playing with a death wish by the sounds of it. Two West Country teams in the Fourth Division next season - them and City - to join Bristol Rovers. Oh dear!
RE: "I won't go today" - STUPID DECISION!! Mike, don't be a wimp. All that way up here last week and you can't travel an hour to your home game this week, I thought those 4 x 4's could go anywhere.
Johnny Evans but Richards made a good contribution today with his constant harrying. He is still a bit off the pace but will improve as he gets more games. Admittedly we could do with a natural goalscorer. Anyone remember poor old Johnny Evans?
RE: Yes Yes me too....did he come from Arsenal.!? a very good player But correct me if im wrong Barnsley Res once beat Manutd Res 6-5 on a snow covered pitch.....and i am sure Johnnu evan played for the res that day........13 days before the Munich disaster...sorry abht that....
Evans and Thomas We were near the bottom of the old 4th division and signed Barry Thomas from Scnuthorpe for £7500 and Johnny Evans (from Exeter??) for £2,500. They formed a successful partnership and Johnny Evans went on to score quite a few goals for Barnsley, many from just a few yards out. He did not do much outside the box but had a real knack of putting the ball in the net. I am not sure his style would work in modern football.
I know, I know.... Already suffered through one of my "home games" this season though (Ashton Gate) and I just didn't fancy it today. That's football though isn't it - matches you know will be a walkover always go the opposite way, matches you expect to be entertaining are rubbish and matches you expect nothing from usually come up with the goods. Nice sitting here in the warm instead of the arctic wind at Swindon, but still wished I was there.
Evans top scored... when we were promoted from the old fourth to third. His tally was just 15 goals and we went up mainly on the basis of an impregnable defence built around Winstanley and Howard. I was just thinking that Hayes would only need eleven more to equal that, along with others scoring around him. I still say he will come good in the end. Got at least one assist today.
RE: I know, I know.... To rub salt in your wounds a little bit more. It wasn't that cold. Well, I began to feel the cold about 10 minutes from the end so it wasn't that bad.
RE: I know, I know.... Hmm, thanks for that! I was on the point of going right up to about 1 o'clock then I got "talked out of it" by my wife. She wanted to go and look at some furniture so I meekly gave in. Grrrrr! I will, however, take some credit for the win today - me not going is what clinched it
