at throw ins, surely this is a basic need in football,do we practice this part of the game,It’s so frustrating,at one throw in 2nd half Thomas literally ran away so as not having to receive ball

You're right, it is a basic need, to show for the ball and to want it, not only from throw-ins but in general when the ball is in play. As for practising that part of the game, I don't think it can be taught other than, 'right lads, when we get a throw-in, make yourselves available and show willing to receive the ball.' This is one of those where the coach can't be to blame, this is so basic it's not even taught to Under 7's. If players aren't showing for a throw, and I agree it's very frustrating, then they are basically shying away, wanting to be unaccountable because they never touched it in the first place. It's a sad indictment of our season that we are even discussing the flaws in our throw-ins, and there are flaws, not only in receiving the ball, but being able to take a throw-in in the first place.

This isn’t anything new though, been like it since last season. If Woodrow doesn’t show for it and get it, then we’re struggling and probably end up throwing it long in hope.

And worryingly Woodrow has been going through the motions for months

    Really?
Even though he scored five goals in February?
Sorry, old mate, but I couldn't disagree more.

Not sure what you’ve seen to come up with that. He had a massive off day yesterday (who didn’t?) but apart from that, he’s been decent and was a big part of our 3 consecutive wins a few weeks ago.

I don't think going through the motions is really the right words. He isn't not trying but he isn't busting a guy either. Up front that doesn't matter because he has one job, put the ball in the net. In midfield he has to be getting stuck in, he has to be accurate wit his passes, thinking about his teammates etc and he doesn't do that. He seems to pass the ball quite lazily or none concentratingly (I don't care if that's a word) rather than actually lacking effort physically so I'd say he goes through the motions more mentally than physically if that makes any sense.

I'm sure if he was in his rightful position it would be a different thing altogether.

I can honestly say I don't have the foggiest over what you're saying. You're doing that deliberately because you know I'm old and a sandwich short of a picnic!:D

He's looked pretty pissed off for a while has Cauley. I don't think you can acuse him of not trying or working, but it's clear than he's not enjoying playing in the role he's been asked to.

    Same goes for Mowatt.

Has anyone on here thought to give Cardiff some credit ????

They were sharper in the thought than us, they were quicker to the ball, they wanted it more than us, and their players got in the refs face, ours, yet again, ran away.
They were the best team , despite their number 4 and 13 being two of the biggest thugs ever to walk in a football pitch .

    That's what EXPERIENCE buys you...

I think that's more like it, he doesn't seem to be lacking physical effort but mentally he looks like he's given up at times. Instead of trying to pick out an inch perfect pass for someone like Thomas he just swings his leg at it. Almost like he's being dragged down to their level. Up front he doesn't have to care about the movement and ability of those around him because he can shoot every time but now he can't

In that first half they were the worst team I have seen at oakwell this season by far. The difference is that at half time their manager made changes, ours readjusted his hat

I'm not sure this is fair. It doesn't help him that he is being played out of position half of the time.

No, I firmly believe that's the whole reason.

The best striker at the club not being played as a striker. Brilliant.

Only one who showed any fight yesterday. Had a proper push and shove with one of the Cardiff players early on yesterday.

Just watched Tykes tv and he was saying Woodrow was shaking his head when the subs were announced.
