Okay it's still If's and but's that Barnsley will need another manager or head coach in the coming days or weeks but I thought I'd add my opinion to the pot.

My view is that we are going down the right route. I really believe in it and can see it coming to a massive thing that clubs will look at in the next couple of years. Theres two different ways to get out of league one but only one would work in the medium term and it's this one rather than bringing lots of older players and doing what Doncaster day did in the champ and coming straight back down.

We are building up good links with big premier league clubs and getting young players with massive potentials (Honestly think Mawson will become a top top champ player minimum). on both loans and permanent deals.

We are getting our ways into these young players. Ben Mansford on the football report come out with a sentence and it wasn't highlighted but I picked up on it. He basically said the reason we were able to turn the bad run around was because of the young squad and that they didn't have the scares of previous battles. All this squad know is to battle in every game and never give up.

Anyway why I wanted to make this post. I think the board need to stick with the way of going about things. Much like Swansea do and Southampton and even Everton do. The next manager or head coach in needs to follow the work already done by the board and LJ. Maybe he could make slightly changes but in the whole go on the already worked path.

I would also love a manager that would take the attention away from the players more. Much like Mourinho does when hes at his very best or dare I say it Keith Hill. When the team players badly comes out and be the punch bag for the next few days.

Now I'm not great when thinking of the next manager and would have never said LJ but I was never against it when the name was mentioned. I could see problems with the previours one though and would like to say LJ and the board and done a very good job of cleaning up the **** of the manager before him. That squad simply wasn't right.

I always say I would like Billy Davies to be manager. He fits IMO to what I would like and apparently some Scottish teams are interested in him so hes reachable. Would have to sort the contract out with Nottingham Forest though.

    Good post.

I actually think we'll be better off in the long run without Johnson because, lets face it, other than the last 7 or 8 games and when he first came in he's pretty much been an abomination. The team is more than good enough to continue improving this season under another manager, as long as they don't start dicking about with formations/playing players in the wrong positions.

In the summer there's a very good chance Winnall/Hourihane/Hammill will be off, and we'll do very well to replace them. But I've faith in what we're trying to do. Good luck Lee and, in all likelihood, see you next season at Oakwell.

If Winnall or Hourihane or Davies leave in the summer and many more we reinvest and go again. I'm not too bothered about things like that. There are manay good players in the football league below us and we can replace them. Southampton haven't add a problem in the last few years have they. I also think it's likely that the club will look to Europe in the summer with Trials and whatever.

The club need to be strong in the summer. Anyone with 12 month to go in the 1st of July get offered a contract extension if the club want to keep them. If they don't want to sign then get rid of them. Something good with the squad we have, all will have good values even with one year left. Long term contacts for the following club and still be within sale range.

    In the summer.

I just hope John Stones gets flogged early on and not at the end of August; then we'll know what kind of Wonga we've got to play with.

I agree with everything you say except the Billy Davies suggestion. He has too much of a history of falling out with people. Our squad needs a good man manager to get the best out of it over the next 3 months. Personally I would go with Stuart Gray supported by the existing staff until the end of the season.

    Re: In the summer.

The club through Ben Manaford could be proactive with it. I believe John Stones representatives are now are Ben Mansfords former employers. How legal would it be if he got in contact with them and the agent that deals with him and ask how likely it would be that he moves in the summer. I expect Man City to move quickly in the summer though.

Although it's not going to be anywhere near the full total transferred in the summer. 20/30 million of the say 50 million? then rest in instalments. Everton still paying for lukaku.

We won,t lose the players mentioned if we go up and if we continue the form we are cuttingly showing it will happen.

Good post except for the dig at Wilson

I don't think we'd consider Davies as he's previously had issue with the type of recruitment policy we have

Maybe. Said Man City because they have been linked with him and he'll fit perfectly into the new managers way of playing.

It's a thoughtful post, Phil. No need for the usual Wilson dig, but it's to be expected.

And your suggestion for manager goes totally against your actual post. Billy Davies a head coach? Reighto.

In my opinion Andy Davies takes the attention off the players really well. I would expect that the local media might not like him but I'm not one of those so I really couldn't care about that.

You say that we improved because of youth but our biggest catalyst was the experienced hammill and the player of the month for January is 25 year old Sam winnall who made his debut 6 years ago and has played for a team that finished 19th, one that finished 22nd, 10th (in the poor Scotland) and 16th before moving to S****horpe and then us.

Hammill's been very good since joining but Barnsley won when they didn't have him at Swindon and Bradford and the average age of the starting 11 was 22. something and surely at one of the lowest all season. It was mentioned that Marley Watkins at 25 and 2 month was the oldest player to start at Swindon.

But experience around the club is just as vital as on the pitch. As explained a hundred times before.

PS why do you want the experienced Davies as manager? He is scarred so should be on the naughty list along with germans, gingers and anything before 1992

Well thought out post and one I agree with for the most part. Billy Davies spoils it a little though and he rejected the Head Coach model at previous clubs and has no record of developing players.

We definitely needed the exoerience Hammill. White and Long around the club though. You have to strike the right balance. But the idea of recruiting and developing your own talent and selling them on and reinvesting is definitely the only model for a club our size.
