Thought Id wait 24 hour before sharing my thoughts on the game... nah, I was blind drunk when I finally got home yesterday, so trying to read or post threads was just futile.
    . . .
Tactically spot on. Team spirit evident. No end of graft and desire. And quality individual performances within a quality team display..
    . . .
I preached all week about not needing to play a holding player. Especially against timid, soft-centred opposition. Hillcroft obviously worked that out too, and whilst it may not be the answer every week, I feel we should look to go down that route whenever we're at home. It also proved that Jacob CAN do a job in a central two. Again, whether you would go with him in there every week is open to debate. I think the 'layering' that Keith spoke of was on show yesterday, where Matty Done filled Jacob's role perfectly, and performed even better than Butts has done in there of late. And while Im on the subject of Done, I think some folk are a little forgetful at times. When he was last fully-fit, he terrorised Reading and Leicester, and was doing the same unfit at Brum until pulling up injured again. But he has looked off it since he returned - not fully-fit - and I read a few comments comparing him with Park!?
He looked sharp at Brighton, and was back to his early-season form yesterday. Great acceleration over 10 yards.
Same topic, but Sir Bobby Hassell. Read a few remarks about him being sloppy and the worst player yesterday. I agree he wasnt his immense self, but again, he's been injured. And that considered, I thought he was solid, and showed just why we are a much stronger unit with him in it. There were high balls toward Diouf and Friend, 1st half especially, that were aimed toward the touchline, and Bob was experienced enough to either nudge the opponent who headed it out, or even more astute, he looked to head it, but didnt, and left it for a throw-in. Looks simple, and it is. But, and this is no slight on the lad, Wiseman in the same position many times, tries to head it clear and often doesnt, allowing the opposition the ball in a dangerous area. And I just hope that Scott watches Bob, and learns from him. Because he can be his eventual successor IMO. Experience, intelligence. Thats Hassell in a nutshell for me. He misplaced a couple of passes, but not in a dangerous area, and I believe he was spent last 20 mins, as he refused to bomb forward. But then I saw him talking with Hill and Flicker, and I reckon they decided he should stay deep and conserve energy/fitness. He is vital to us, and next weekend is huge. No back2back victories in 47 games.. if he had dashed forward and inflamed the groin again, that would have been a big blow. I wouldnt fancy Snodgrass vs Wiseman.
    . . .
To finish, I want to give praise to a few players who dont get enough credit, but whenever they have 1 bad game, they get flak..
Step forward Foster & McNulty, who look to have formed a great understanding at the back.

fans always look for scapegoats when teams not playing well, not much we can do about that.
but in my opinion i'd much rather watch this managers teams than the previous two's.

Well, tbf, your 'rep power' rating suggests you are twice as good as I am pal, so no qualms from me.. If I have to be 2nd best to anybody it may as well be the forum legend himself..
    And yes, that helped

Done and Vaz Te were the suprises for me, Done was up there with Shirley for Man of the Match and Vaz for his work rate and better tracking back which was non existant earlier in season.

Good team performance yet first half we over passed the ball when shooting opportunities were there to be had, second half we pressurised the full back, who was on a yellow, down the left and that paid off he was scared to get a tackle in around the box and we were getting the ball in the mix.

Davies aint Andy Gray but he would do well to watch his movement into space and how he comes short for the ball giving the midfield an extra option, but then Gray aint no Davies when it comes to hitting the net. If only we could put both together.

Anyway well done KHiller and the boys but remember the first time you dont put 100% in and give movement to the passing game it will turn to sh it again.

    You reds.
