Has anybody fished the lake at Manvers or the dearne nearby? Or know of anybody who has?

If so what's it like? How much is it if owt? Is it fairly well stocked etc?

Thanks in advance for any info, was thinking of taking little lad.

Yeah, the big lake where there's a boating launch place. Went round earlier and they'd chucked over 1000 young carp in earlier in year. I live next to it and seen a few carp anglers but mi lad wants to get into coarse fishing and I wanted somewhere nearby to sit with him and show him the ropes.

Any info on the place would be welcome, seen the stuff on the website but if anyone's fished it I'd like to hear what they thought.

    Cheers

does it have to be there. smithies pond is good for starters carp, perch, roach, bream, skimmers.its great sport.

its just lower down than fleets dam follow signs for dumpit site on smithies lane. i used to fish on the road side right in the corner peg. near the carpark.

fish up to the reeds about a foot off with double white or red and white maggot, throw a hanful of maggots in each put in,perch to start with then every so often the carp move in,on light tackle its great fun.

Thanks for that, I think catching a few will get him into it and although Manvers is on the doorstep if he catches sod all I'm sure he'll get bored in no time!!!

    Cheers Andy

Agree with smithies, bit more pellet orientated these days but still can't go wrong with some maggot.

Hoyle mill plenty of fish there to take a maggot depending where you fish you won't know what's taking it.

Pit pond up chaversley is fishing well, pellet on the pole is getting a bite a chuck.

Tinkers is fishing well early afternoons/evenings especially shallow or in the margins. Corn the better bait as pellet and maggot is getting destroyed in the margins.

You could try the Brickyard ponds at Goldthorpe, not sure how it is fishing at the moment , but when I was taking my lads you could usually be certain of a fair few fish there.

Had many a good day there a long time ago. Always preferred it to fleets.

I think as well you can put the net in as well so there's something to look at at home time.
