We tried for the fans favourite - He turned us down

We tried for a current manager doing well in Butcher - He turned us down

Now, we have nothing to lose by appointing a ex player who actually wants the job. The fans know that we have tried to get the right man in but for whatever reason it hasnt happened. We should now appoint someone who the fans will accept straight away and give them a good chance.

I think that megson would have been approached once SOD had turned us down so cant see it now. Could be wrong tho

Not particularly happy with Megson but despite the obvious attractions of ex-players, a proper manager is needed, with experience. Megson provides that. Basically it's whoever is best out of a bunch the club clearly didn't really want.

I agree with the managerial experience but its strange that we have been turned down TWICE. Beginning to look a laughing stock. Somethings going off in these talks that we dont know about. Takeover? Cant guarantee job due to takeover? Not long enough contract due to this?

    Who knows?

I think it boils down to the fact that we are not very attractive to a half decent prospect.

I would have been really happy to have Butcher on board but shitty though scottish football is, I fully understand why he wouldn't want to swap a good life in the highlands, 2nd in the SPL, cup semi finals and the prospect of Europe for a relegation scrap to avoid League 1 that looks odds against.

I could also understand why SOD didn't want it either - widely recognised to have done a great job at Forest in a short space of time, and to have been treated badly by them as a result, his stock is quite high at the moment. He would really hav wanted the Wolves job but would have figured that even if he didn't get it it wasn't **** or bust to go for us - he will have other more attractive offers soon. If he came to Barnsley and failed to avoid the drop that stock would have fallen just as quickly as it rose at Forest.

    We now really need to:

    a. Appoint quickly.

    b. Keep it all out of the bloody media until its done to avoid any more damage

In my opinion, it is extremely likely that it will be Flicker now until the end of the season.

    Only our championship status.

Jesus christ would Hignett Redfearn etc still be a legend if they took us down

easier to sack a manager than find a replacement in our predicament. to be fair the board have approached 2 good candidates, but i can't blame either for turning us down

lets get behind the team for Setdi & see what happens

I think most of us are resigned to relegation. The problem with the appointment of either of those two would be their ability to engineer a speedy return to the Championship.

I worshiped them as players, but emotions do not apply to management. Needs a detached approach.

To be honest I'd rather us carry on with the current hiatus than make a bad choice.

As footballers yes, in the same way John Hendrie is. I know he didn't take us down, but he was sacked.
