..............can we just remind ourselves that the team now in 6th in the league, with the exception of just one player, was built, retained at the club or brought through the ranks by none other than Danny Wilson Danny Wilson put this talented bunch of players together - unfortunately for him it took a change of manger for the players to start working together. In time, I think Danny would have sorted this out - but its football and 'time' is often something that directors haven't got a lot of Good move by the directors to change managers - but lets not berate Danny Wilson for the work he has done in building this team.
Re: been saying that since he was sacked danny who!? ....thanks for the wonderful memories of yesteryear Danny...I will take those memories to the crem. with me. But King danny has gone....long live King LJ. You redz
Who are you and what have you done to the real young nudger? The real young nudger isnt that sensible.
And no way in a million years would we have been sixth place if Danny was still managing these players.
I agree Nudger and I will always be grateful to Danny for what he did for us in both spells as manager.
I fully expected us to improve under Danny especially with the easier fixtures, return of players & O'Sullivan signing but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have won 6 from 6. Either way I'm just glad we're winning at the minute. Judging whether it was the right decision or not should happen further down the line when we see more of us under Johnson.
All speculation. Under Danny we could have turned the corner and would have challenged for play off.........under Danny we would have been fighting against relegation. I haven't read any 'bad' comments re Danny just personal observations. Let's move on and just support Johnson.
Nobody knows what would've happened and even though I didn't necessarily want him sacked, we weren't intense enough in our play and we lacked attacking threat. These are both 2 areas where I am confident Johnson will succeed. Maybe Danny was a bit unlucky with Winnall just coming back, it could've saved his job if he came back sooner I suppose. One thing I don't get with Danny though was why sign Scowen and then not play him for 3 games? We've clearly seen he's good enough and should've gone straight into the team when he was signed. Anyway let's back Johnson and give him our support.
And no way in a million years will you ever know that. They are his players whether you like it or not.
Maybe its time he packed in the Management side of things then and becomes a Director of Football because it seems he can't cut it in the dug out or training ground anymore but can target decent signings. Funny how when we were crap plenty were saying they were signings made by Mansford/J Cryne. Now we're winning its the side that Danny built.
Correct. Didn't seem to be able to organize them and paid the price. We certainly are in a better place now!
Sometimes things just don't work out..........Dannys second spell with us was abysmal, and it didn't help that he came in when we were spiralling out of the championship. The board made the right decision, at the right time.
that's right Nudger,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I reckon you are an insightful (inciteful) individual.................................................................................................................
I cannot just put my finger on it but. What is Lee doing to these players what Danny couldn't, was it player power, was Danny making them do something they didn't like doing. Anyway, it don't matter now, whatever Lee's doing, I hope he keeps doing it all the way back to the championship Red Army!!!!
Danny just ran out of time. He'd assembled the team. He just needed them to win a couple of matches in January. But they didn't and by that stage it looked like Danny had had a year at it. Bad luck, really. Mark and Lee haven't done much to transform this squad into contenders. ah well, Danny. yer been good for Barnsley. thanks..
Danny will always be a Barnsley legend for doing what no manager has ever done, which is to take us into the Premiership, playing attractive, attacking football with a carefully constructed and recruited team. He will always be in the 'hall of fame' here. I feel for him in the current way things have worked out. He has been continuously in management for an incredible number of years, working at many different levels with a degree of success. I am saddened for him that his recent tenure did not work out as both he and the fans would have hoped. I personally agree with the actions of the board, though, and hope Danny will find himself employment in which his experience and character will allow him to feel that he ended his career in football management on a successful note. He deserves no less than that. Thanks, Danny, for the great memories.
I feel exactly same. Just can't put my finger on what went wrong with Danny, when he came the players played out of their skin first few games. In fact that game at Elland Road I thought we were gonna get another Flicker season ,roll on a couple of months to Leeds at home and they tried to throw the game at us but we refused to take it,terrible display. I thought at beginning of season he had the players he wanted and a full pre season to work with them but it wasn't to be and IMO it wasn't gonna get any better this season. Danny will always be a legend to me for getting us to the promised land and that far out weighs the Wendy fiasco as far as I'm concerned. But IMO either his hunger has gone or he can't influence the players as he used to,either way good luck Danny, always a legend and a warm welcome to visits to Oakwell but we move on.
