Football emotions all over the place, I feel like I am being unfaithful ! ! All because I am off to Wembley to cheer Bradford on on Sunday. Let's hope I'll be back there in a few weeks to follow the Reds again - MY team. And that's where the confusion comes in; I am Bradford born and bred, my first ever 'proper' match was Bradford City v Man City in about 1971 (testimonial - Rod Marsh and Mike Summerbee came to talk to me). I have never disliked City (in the way I despise Leeds for example) but I never used to go see them either, the family had always been Park Avenue supporters so there was nobody really willing to take me regularly. As a 12 year old in 1978 I was taken to see Barnsley by my Auntie's new fella - I stayed the weekend (must have been Easter) so got to see them again a few days later ........ and I have been a Red ever since ! ! 35 ish years now. But according to some on here (Young Nudger springs to mind) I will NEVER be a Red cos I was'nt born a stones throw from Oakwell and I never worked darn 't pit when I was 9 .............. but I AM a Red (in my mind). But on Sunday, I'll be cheering City on ....... one thing that would make me really a really proud would be to drive past the Barnsley Motorway bridge and see a "good luck City" banner hanging from it. So if any of you have bored kids at home for half term, get them making something and keep the feel-good factor going by giving Barnsley fans a good name. (there were a couple of banners wishing the Reds luck when we went, can't remember where but I'm sure it wasn't Sheffield or Nottingham). Just thought I'd share the thoughts of a non-Tarn Tarn fan
Nowt wrong with any of that My "second" team was Forest (when Cloughy was there, 70s/80s) and I've always keep an eye on Sunderland (where my dad came from). I also watched Cambridge United quite a bit when I worked there (78-82) and Newcastle when I was a Student there. The Reds will always come first though. I'll never forget the Bradford fans' on the day we beat them to get promoted to the Prem, stood and applauded us despite the fact we nearly relegated them.
