Yes as AMAZED as i was ...a Trick played on me down pilley pit,in 1943 anded up in a railway yard in Korea1953 it all started when i was pony driving at pilley,on this day approaching the coal face with empty tubs,i could see the lads older than me gathered around one chap on his knees(little did i know it was for my benefit)the job had stopped for some reason, and the chap knelt down was holding a pick, and was trying to hit a piece of wood, on a spot that had been chalked, only he was missing it,(on purpose)of course i fell for it,so they said ok BOB if you think you can do it have a go BIG HEAD, i knew i could do it...so i got thick pick and was about to strike, when they said HOLD ON,take your pit helmet off,and close your eyes first, EASY I said, look out i knelt down and struck ,i hit it ok,but through my helmet first, Now lets go to KOREA,im at TOKCHON rail head waiting for the train to arrive,im sat nowt to do,twiddling my thumbs, the Korean lads were sat chatting,i finds an old pick,so i remeberes the trick at piley...so i makes a hole and start messing about.i knew thes Koreans could not resist, eventually, they see me and come and see what im doing.....and there is always one...yes no english spoken, so one has a go i tell him take off hat close eyes, he does that ,i tell the others shush,,,he strikes, and pick goes thrio is hat, for a minute there was sillence,i thought he was going to hit me with the axe,,,but no,he saw the funny side of it.....But it does not end there, several days later, same thing,im waiting ,i notice the Koreans huddled to gether i look to see what they are doing, and the one i kiddrd ,was showing a newcomer ,..if that trick is still being played in Korea thats where it came from Pilley pit
