Better than some one getting up, thanking everyone, brown nosing all the corporates and giving the peace and love garbage. I want to see musicians out their trees on drugs and alcohol - that's when the best music comes out of them
All a bit embarrassing for the lad. He'll be back off to LA now, to update P Diddy on his crazy antics Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I thought it was great, and i'm not really a fan The speech in isolation from all the swagger (pretty sure he's taking the p*ss there) is actually pretty awesome considering the audience
Funnily enough he said the same about you Just from reading the BBS once or twice. He even quoted one of your posts on an Arctic Monkeys forum ...... Nothing wrong with that speech. If he made those words lyrics it would be another genius bit of song writing. Think dropping the mic was a bit tongue in cheek at how safe the Brit Awards have become.
Alex Turner is a cool lovely person! He's clearly taking piss outta music today and the Brits, it's what he's done numerous times actually. People on here need to gerra grip, this forum feels likes it's full of geriatric mardy *******! What's the highlight of their day watching Wheeler Dealers on Discovery channel and w@nk1ng off to Loose Women?
Think it's quite funny actually. Mr Bonio acts like that all the time, but he's being serious when he does it. Award shows are all a bit silly anyway. Awards should be for people who have devoted their lives for charity, kids who have done a sporting or academic achievement, soldiers who have rescued civilians caught in heavy gunfire, that sort of thing, not for people who sing songs for a living or pretend to be someone else for a couple of hours. My industry (group insurance) has awards evenings and I would rather sit watching my house burn down than attend anything like that. Anyway, the Brit awards haven't been worth watching since The KLF turned up driving a tank, played their dance hit with a thrash metal band, fired blanks at the audience from machine guns, retired onstage, deleted their entire back catalogue and then threw a dead sheep into the foyer for good measure. They knew what the Brit awards were all about.
I'm a week off 60, when I was a muso, (keyboards and piano) ... ..in a band my middle name was 'interestin' as I was regarded as the boring one.! I don't get what the problem is here. I am no particular fan of the Arctic Monkeys nor am I familiar with their work but I am told the lyrics are well thought out and intelligent so, as others have posted, I think his speech was intentionally 'ironic' (even if he laid it on a bit thick with a very large trowel). Considering they are a proper band and given the era they working in with distractions like Pop idol, media hype, manufactured bands, image and style over substance AND the fact it was the BRITS, his speech was totally valid IMHO. The fact that half the audience were probably vacuous 'air-heads' meant he s less than subtle hammering his point home. Even dropping the mic could be argued as a nod to 'commercialism/money rules over art' rather than just a'half-ar*ed rebellious gesture . On the other hand he could have just been a bit pissed.
