Unlucky for Saturday, defended admirably, thought the referee got the major decisions correct but he was still bloody crap. You lot really do hate playing at Hillsborough, last minute goals, red cards etc etc be a shame if we aren't in the same league next year, although if that means we are in this league and you aren't then I'd take it. My thoughts on the game fwiw : We started quite well and probed does your weaker left hand side but COG could and perhaps should have done better with the early chance for you, it was tame, you then had a five minute spell when you applied pressure and the on loan Hull lad was unfortunate to not score. Then came the Frimpong five minutes, the lad just ignored the warning and got a soft yellow, someone needed to calm him down but he just lunged in again and left Marriner with little choice, thought it was strange that DW brought off COG, his work rate alone should be the reason to have stayed on. Despite the numerical advantage we struggled to get in behind the two banks of four and indeed Jennings could have given you a lead had he had a little more composure. Onto the second half were you basically were camped in your own half but again we didn't test Steele enough and when we were reduced to ten I was beginning to think you'd nick it. From my view, in line with the Mellis penalty claim I felt we got away with one on first viewing but looking at the replay later I was wrong, it was no foul but no dive either, he then made that tackle that's been debated at length on here, I wasn't sure it was a red at the time but can see why it was given. That foul was just after 90mins, hence the added time which annoyed a few, Mellis took about a minute to trudge off and we also made a sub in that time added in so the minimum 5 minutes would be extended, Maguire worked his nuts off and took a chance and like so often in our games we snuck a late winner.
Agree with the majority of that. Good luck for the rest of the season. Shame your pals on Owlstalk couldn't be similarly gracious.
I'd agree with all of that. To be honest, I said to my mate who supports Wednesday, it was always going to be difficult playing away from home against a team in form, especially with that team being Wednesday at Hillsborough, somewhere where we never get any joy. It was made harder by the fact that we spent probably an hour of the game a man down. The referee was equally as bad for either side, but for me got all themajor decisions correct. I think our penalty appeal was one of them, if its for you, you feel its a penalty, if its against you, you'd say its soft. Mellis didn't help himself as he was warned previously for diving. I think the main reason why we're particularly disappointed with the defeat is the way we defended with 10 and then 9 men, only to conceed such a sloppy goal at such a late stage. On the balance of play, Wednesday deserved the points, but because of the way Ramage and Cranie in particular performed, I feel we earned a point. All in all, just another defeat for us at Hillsborough.
I think you're pretty spot on with your assessment there mate, I said at the time that I didn't think the mellis incident was a penalty. To be honest I'd take you having 6 points off us next year if it means still been in this league
That certainly sounds like the game I watched. We're destined to come away from Hillsborough with nowt and feeling like we deserved more and it seems like a long time since I saw a game against Wednesday whereby I thought you were a good team and good value for the win. But for some reason, no matter how ordinary Wednesday are, we seem to always manage to play even worse.
Possibly the one good thing from Saturday was my team leader (Wednesday fan) dislocated his shoulder celebrating the winner. Two weeks off work for him...
That's the game I watched. If we do stay up, I doubt it will be at your expense. Feel free to contribute more. That report beats the "you're a bunch of eleven fingered dingle cnuts" that we usually get by some distance.
I know every club has them.but its nice to see you arnt a toss pot sounding off like a schoolkid in a playground,no six finger, sister shagging *****,just a honest assessment. thanks
Fair assumption that mate well done its roundabout same as I saw it too. Don't think you can get a fair assessment of how teams are normally doing in a Derby game as form goes out of the window. Ref got most decisions right and players from both sides were over trying to the extent of making g even more mistakes nerves also played a part too. Think you'll be OK this season imo especally if wickham comes back and if we can bounce back straight away We'll do OK imo but it will be tight.
Got to disagree. They had more possession, as they should with a man advantage, but what did they do with it? Like the Wednesday supporter says, they couldn't get in behind our back four. In fact, on the balance of play we deserved the points. We had several clear-cut chances, I only remember Steele making one save when he tipped it over in the second half.
Steele made two top drawer saves in the second period but that was it. We've got a few tough games coming up Reading and Huddersfield away and the visits of Wigan, Derby and QPR before this month is out, easily could be nil points so will drag us back in it.
Much prefer this kind of Wednesdayite to the trolls we had the other day. Hopefully we'll be in the same division next season and the friendly banter can continue. Don't be a stranger
Pretty much agree with all that. We were our own worst enemy with the cards and mistakes we made so can't blame the ref (even though he had a bit of a mare). I'm not sure on the penalty decision even now I've seen it a few times so got to accept why the ref didn't give it. Same with Mellis's red card. It wasn't a game for the purists but it was a decent derby game. Good luck to you lot, I would personally like us both to be in this division next season, it's just not the same without playing you (couldn't give 2 shiny shites about the blades mind, they can rot in the bottom 2 divisions).
