Award Driving School. The blokes called Graham Ward and he's fantastic. He's based in Staincross/Mapplewell.

Alan Shephard taught me, he's very calm and patient, his wife teaches as well if you'd prefer a female teacher.

I learnt with Kevin Cooper. Good teacher and a fellow season ticket holder so there were plenty of relaxing conversations during the lessons.

Ask what grade they are, 5 or 6 and you will be ok with them, if they say 4 then hang up the phone.

I can't recommend you a good one as mine has since retired. But do your homework. I went with Local, the first chap they gave me, albeit a nice chap, cancelled on me several times before having to suddenly retire, the week before my 2nd driving test. Local said they'd be in touch with me regarding a replacement. I had to call them back the day before my test and they manged to find someone who could take me at short notice.

I failed that test (which I think was my 2nd) and the chap who took me on the day before my test urged me to put in for another one despite not seeing me drive for more than an hour. A week before my 3rd test, he cancelled on me one day as he "had to do a test himself". A day later, he called me up to inform me that he couldn't take me out anymore. Local reluctantly found me another instructor, the day before my 3rd test. A chap named Mark, who as I say, has since retired. He told me how useless Local were, and that he was trying to set up his own company. He had a different car to the first 2, so I had to get used to a new car and then do a driving test in it. I failed again.

Mark told me that I wasn't ready to do my test just yet as the first 2 blokes had taught me a few bad habits. It wasn't until another 9 or so months later that I finally passed my driving test. In the meantime, between me and my parents who helped me out, we wasted thousands. And then I had to buy a car and insure it.

So my advice is, if they're still going, steer clear of local.

My mate Keith has literally just started up today for "Round the Bend" - I know. Give him a whirl - he's got some start-up offers on that may be good
