Moving to the Glassworks next week, the rent is 4 times what they're paying now so a lot of the traders that have been trading for years are closing. ******* unbelievable.
Isn’t it something like 3 quarters of the people who traded there before the move have now been priced out? It’s ridiculous and counter productive surely?
Disgusting and a lot are rightly telling BMBC to shove it. Aren't they also trying to tie all the traders in to a minimum 5 year term? Talk about undoing all the good work and progress that has been made. Next thing we will have BMBC moaning the markets are 75% empty and they won't understand why!!
2700k per month rents by the looks of things . Their expecting traders to work 80+ hour 6/7 day weeks to pay for it all . Bmbc probably hoping they all go bust then they can convert the space into more retail outlets such as river island/ next etc.
True . The fact that the town centre is full of charity and poundshops plus other budget retailers would indicate the folk of Barnsley haven't the available money to go on shopping sprees every Saturday to keep the bigger retailers happy .
Yes but you have to keep hold of your heritage and what is considered your usp or at least your biggest draw. Barnsley markets are famous and a new building shouldn't mean completely driving away what made it famous. The building isn't famous but the traders are, get rid of them and it is a huge huge gamble completely destroying the Barnsley market experience and just hoping can start again with completely new traders in a new building and the only connection being that it's in Barnsley.
Have they though? Wonder what the snapshot of Meadowhall shoppers is at any point of the day regarding where they're from?
