Just returned from a wonderful break in the Cotswolds. The whinging middle aged g.t I am though can't help but not notice nearly every county has a sign, I've seen signs welcome to Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire the lot job As I've lived in Halifax for 17 years now I went M62 and M6 on the way there and M1 way back, it suddenly dawned on me there isn't one sign saying welcome to Yorkshire on the M1 northbound you get South Yorkshire forest around J34 ish from west to east on M62 there's the old boundary markers but barely visible above Rishworth Moor J22. Same applies when you come from North Wales back over the boarder towards Chester, opposite direction big signs etc welcome to Wales/Cymru I know yorks is split due to geographical size and there's signs within e.g crossing west to south etc but the county as one doesn't seem to shout how proud we are its all a bit meh in comparison. Good grief can tell there's no game tomorrow
There is a welcome to Barnsley sign on the A628 and IIRC the A635. It could be that because South and West Yorkshire are metropolitan authorities that there is no single body to erect and maintain a "Welcome to South Yorkshire" (or West Yorkshire) sign. So you get a local council one rather than a county one.
My dad worked on the roads.... unfortunatley he got the sack for stealing... tbh when I visited home... all the signs were there.
I've always thought this too. For such a proud and distinct county, it's mad we don't have signs as you drive in.
There are North Yorkshire signs all around the roads exiting York including the A64 although they don't say "Welcome"
Regularly go see the in laws in Sunderland via A19 route, teeny tiny North Yorks sign on the way back in, just past boro though heading north welcome to Durham land of the Prince Bishops probably 10ft x 10ft, for a county this size its p*** poor for showcasing tourism etc
